Republicans Hammer Texas Democrats with New Lines
DALLAS (Reuters) - Texas Democrats may have run, but they cannot hide from a White House-backed redistricting aimed at thinning their numbers in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Republicans, led by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, are trying to add up to six or seven more seats to the narrow majority the party has with the new lines it drew in Texas aimed at ousting Democratic incumbents.

Republicans said they took the unusual step of redistricting twice in less than four years in order to make sure that the Texas congressional delegation better reflects the Republican nature of the state. Republicans hold every major statewide office in Texas.

Critics point out that traditionally states draw new congressional district lines once every 10 years after U.S. Census numbers are released. They say the plan pushed by DeLay, who is nicknamed "the Hammer" for his confrontational style of politics, struck a new blow for nasty partisanship.

The Houston Chronicle said in an editorial the new districts pushed by DeLay "stand as a freakish monument to political megalomania."

1. Whatever happened to "three strikes and you are out"?
Delay had now been admonished three times for ethical violations. The use of an air plane to track Dems. Offering a bribe to a Congressman. And the Financing of the Texas redistricting. Shouldn't he be out?

5. Wait until we get through with Colyandro and Ellis
and the 3rd TRMPAC / DeLay associate. There is a long poweder trail lit that is winding its way from the District Atty's offict to Tom DeLay.
His minions are looking at prison terms AND there is sufficient evidence to indict the bug man already. Ronnie Earle knows what he is doing. Meanwhile, DeLay continues to dig deeper in the hole he's in. This is going to take a little time and it won't be pretty, but its going to have lots of momentum and energy once it gets going

I vusualize the District Attys Travis Co vs DeLay as something like this:

2. Democrats, Greens, Indepenedents, Libertarians and every other
decent person in Texas should just move to another state and leave Texas to rot in its own republican corruption.

The state would fall apart within 2 years and then y'all could move back and institute this new thing they call a democratic government there.

3. Don't mean to be rude, but
This is NEWS?!?!?

Redistricting happened last year.

Lawsuits flew. Texas' primary was moved back a week to March 9 because of uncertainty whether the new district lines would hold up in court.

6. Rude and wrong on several fronts. We are fighting to make sure that
at least several if not many of the Dems running in Texas get into office and this is a VERY important issue for many repuke run states. Banning together and fighting these idiots is new and ongoing news.

it looks like destroying the state became a personal mission for them.
