http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=a0J.fNaS0e8g&refer=homeOct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader's campaign workers appeared outside Democratic nominee John Kerry's Washington headquarters last month wearing black T-shirts emblazoned with the word ``Spoilers.''
Nader has so far fought his way onto the ballot in the District of Columbia and 34 states, including such battlegrounds as Florida, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Wisconsin and New Mexico. In several states he has withstood legal challenges by Democrats concerned that he'll take votes from Kerry and influence the results of a second consecutive national election.
``It doesn't take much to have an effect on an extremely close state,'' said Frank Newport, editor in chief of the Washington-based Gallup poll. ``If all the stars are in alignment, he could have an impact on a state, and one state could have an effect on the nation.''
A national poll by Gallup conducted Oct. 9-10 showed Kerry, the four-term senator from Massachusetts, in a statistical tie with Bush, raising the possibility that Nader may weigh on the outcome of the election.
