GOP Consulting Firm Investigated for Voter Fraud Claims

Oregon opens criminal probe into charges that Democratic voter forms were thrown out.

By Ralph Vartabedian, Times Staff Writer

Oregon's attorney general opened a criminal investigation Wednesday into allegations that Democratic voter registration forms were destroyed or discarded by a political consulting firm working for the Republican National Committee.

The allegations involve a voter registration drive conducted by Sproul & Associates, a Phoenix-based consulting organization that was hired by the RNC earlier this year and is headed up by the former executive director of the Arizona Republican Committee, Nathan Sproul.

Sproul has become entangled in controversial allegations in at least three states where his company was conducting registration drives paid for by the RNC.

RNC officials acknowledged Wednesday that Sproul was paid to conduct the registrations. But they characterized the controversy as a Democratic "ploy" and charged that supporters of Sen. John F. Kerry had engaged in rampant voter fraud that had gained less attention.

Both Democrats and Republicans use paid consultants to register voters, but laws in most states require that they register and submit applications for any individual regardless of party affiliation.

1. So, FBI (and I would assume state AG) are investigating
this type of fraud in Nevada (Reno & Las Vegas), I wonder how many other states will be investigating this.

I really hate these evil :puke:s

3. Why would Dems be involved in "ploy"???
Doesn't add up. Too risky. Throwing away our own votes?

4. California
The Republicans are hot on Kevin Shelley(Secretary of State) over so-called conflicts of interest and we all know it's political. They are saying that he hired Democrats (funny, most of us are Democrats anyway - what is he supposed to do, import Texans?), that he engaged in money-laundering (if so, why did it take three years for them to discover something that Kevin Shelley's own office was already investigating?), that money from the Help America Vote act was going to help sign up democrats over republicans, and they are probably thinking up lots of othe bogus charges.

12. I don't think they really implicated Dems...
From what I've heard/read, there were some contractors who were being paid $2 for each registration they submitted. A few apparently submitted fake registrations to get more money. If this it true, they were defrauding the organization that was paying them as well as submitting fraudulent registrations.

5. This is a very interesting story...
It seems to be one of those stories that percolate under neath all the other stuff and then WHAM!!! it becomes a headline story especially if we can get a bunch of people who did in fact register as Dems and find out that their registreations never got filed. Sort of like thousands of Blacks being on the Florida Felony list but only 64 Latinos. This could be a very big story.

9. Turns out its larger than just the consulting company here in
Vegas. The RNC in Nevada has also been encouraging
RNC canvassers to throw away Democrtatic registrations. This is going to the top. Big news here!

10. You know what? Half of the republicans in congress were probably
not even legitimately elected.

How long have these creepy republicans been engaging in all these various types of voter fraud, and we are just now really understanding the scope of it all?

15. Every person in that entire company should
be required to turn in their voter registration cards. Disenfranchise them and see how THEY like it.

17. Why not eliminate registering by party?
Seriously, why is REGISTRATION by party important? Doesn't it almost invite problems? You could have partisan shenanigans at many levels. Registration forms for a particular party aren't turned in or are torn up or throw away. Forms for a particular party are conveniently not entered into the states computer system. New voter registration cards conveniently don't get mailed to a particular party. How does designating your party when you register matter? Even at the primary level, don't you go in and they ask Republican or Democrat and direct you to one side of the room or the other?
