Foes see danger if Castor wins

Bitterness escalated in the race between Mel Martinez and Betty Castor as a Martinez county campaign manager's e-mail to supporters linked beating Castor to fighting terrorism.

Forget Fallujah and Tora Bora.

The new antiterrorism front: Seminole County, Florida, according to a recent e-mail from Republican Senate hopeful Mel Martinez's county campaign chairman, who urges supporters to stop Democrat Betty Castor from winning.

''Your dedicated assistance is the only thing that can prevent such a catastrophe from occurring,'' the e-mail said. ``You and I are the front line on the war on terror because if Castor succeeds, we lose that war.''

Claiming outrage at the ''fear mongering,'' the Castor campaign Thursday distributed the e-mail, penned by Lou Magill, Seminole County chairman of Martinez's campaign.

1. The man standing next to George Bush
holding a little girl, is the 'terrorist' that Castor supposedly allowed to teach at her school. Martinez is trying to paint Castor has a terrorist sympathizer because she didn't fire him fast enough, but the pictorial evidence shows who the real terrorist sympathizers are.

2. It's so cool she caught Mel Martinez trying to villify her
for not firing the man from the University while Mel tries to defend his friend, George Bush, who was friendly to the same guy.

No better way to point out Mel's sneaky nature! Mel truly sucks. Typical Republican politician. Rules, laws, expectations, requirements NEVER apply to them, only to everyone else.

3. Governor enters fray of Senate race
Governor enters fray of Senate race

By Bob Mahlburg
Tallahassee Bureau
Posted October 16 2004

TALLAHASSEE · Gov. Jeb Bush stepped into the crossfire of Florida's escalating U.S. Senate race Friday, charging in a new television ad that Democratic candidate Betty Castor "crossed the line" by saying a suspected terrorist campaigned for his brother's presidential campaign in 2000.

Castor's campaign responded that the governor and GOP Senate candidate Mel Martinez -- a former White House official who co-chaired the president's 2000 Florida campaign -- are desperately trying to protect the president from associations with a terrorist.

"Why is the governor entering the fray?" Castor's spokesman, Dan McLaughlin, asked.

"He is trying to cover up for his brother." McLaughlin added. "He certainly has a political interest because his brother is in a tight race. The White House has a problem and it's never been looked at until Mel made an issue of it. Mel Martinez brought this on them and that's why you're seeing Jeb step out there. It's damage control."
