Zimbabwe opposition chief acquitted of treason

HARARE (AFP) - The leader of Zimbabwe's main opposition party Morgan Tsvangirai, who was accused of plotting to assassinate President Robert Mugabe, was acquitted of treason by the High Court in Harare.

"The state has not been able to prove high treason beyond reasonable doubt," said Judge Paddington Garwe, pronouncing the eagerly awaited verdict.

Charges of high treason were brought against Tsvangirai based on a secretly filmed meeting between the opposition chief and Canadian-based political consultant Ari Ben Menashe in 2001, in which Tsvangirai allegedly sought help to organise Mugabe's "elimination" and mount a putsch.

This is the right verdict. What was happening with this case is SO obvious. Tsvangerai's OWN PR PEOPLE released this video just before the election. It is so obvious that they saw the polling which showed he was going to lose the election. So they set him up. They baited him into saying just enough so that it sounded like they were plotting to murder Mugabe. They gave Mugabe the tape hoping that Mugabe would arrest him, call off the elections and execute Tsvangerai. They were going to lose the election either way, but if they set up Tsvangerai, they could build up a PR campaign portraying Mugabe as a dictator.

However, Mugabe didn't take the bait. They booked Tsvangerai, released him, and the election went on. The election was resolved at the ballot box and the legal issues were resolved in the court...

It's amazing how the fascists turn on their own for money and power.

5. Logic. How do you explain the fact that the evidence against Tsvangarai

was created and delivered to Mugabe by the PR firm that the western corporations supporting Tsvangarai's party had hired to help Tsvangaria win the electioni?

Why would his OWN contractor do this? Why did they wait until right before the election when NOTHING ELSE was working to deliver this video tape to Mugabe?
