2. A Senator and airplane just before elections.. I felt my heart missing
a beat as I heard this. The tragic death of Paul Wellstone just came to mind. Was glad to hear the reassuring words that Edwards is OK, that the takeoff was aborted.

9. Saw the same story
Ten seconds before takeoff the flight was aborted when a generator light came on. Edward, his staff, and members of the media were on the plane which was leaving Cleveland.

This was the first thing I saw when I came home from work, so I may have missed some of it.

11. Relax, everybody.
A two-engine jet typically has two engine-driven generators. If one of them fails the electrical system crossties to the remaining generator automatically and there is no interruption of electrical power. However, an airline's or a charter operation's procedures normally require the crew to abort a takeoff for any kind of cautionary indication if they are still below a certain speed (usually 80-100 kts). This is not very unusual and is just a minor malfunction. All of these jets have multiple redundant systems and they are very safe.

13. Thanks ocelot for calming these people down a little.
I was just about to post a similar statement. Things like this happen all the time, and the reason to abort is to TAKE NO CHANCES!

15. Link:Edwards' flight aborted because of indicator light
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 05:05 PM by cal04
Democrat John Edwards' takeoff was aborted Friday while the plane was on a runway because of an indicator light on the aircraft.

"They ran into a little problem with something on the airplane," Burke Lakefront Airport commissioner Khalid Bahhur said. "There was an indicator light that came on."

The flight was supposed to take off about 5 p.m. but was still on the ground 30 minutes later. The vice presidential candidate was departing after a town hall meeting and rally in suburban Cleveland.

Bahhur said no other flights at the airport just outside downtown Cleveland were delayed and that the airport was operating under normal conditions.

16. man, you guys are paranoid
Not saying it's without warrant...

But c'mon, why would they knock of Edwards? Kerry's the one who kicked W's butt all over three stages, they'd go after him. Imagine if something did happen to Edwards. Kerry would win by a landslide. The coverage of the funeral, the investigation, the new pick as VP, would generate so much coverage Bush wouldn't get a word in edgewise. Rove isn't that stupid.

21. It wouldn't matter, even an accident would backfire
As I said above, they would not want something to happen to Edwards because of the sympathy it would evoke for the ticket.

22. Yeah, but when Mel Carnahan died
I was screaming because I thought Ashcroft would then get the Senate seat. I celebrated when they elected Jean and then look what happened.
