HIBBING — John Kerry’s running mate, Sen. John Edwards, will be making a stop on the Iron Range Tuesday, Oct. 18.
U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, DFL-Minn., said in a conference call Thursday the event would be held at the Hibbing Memorial Arena starting at 5 p.m., but Stacie Paxton, a spokeswoman for the Kerry/Edwards campaign, said the location has not been confirmed.
Wherever it is held, Paxton said the event will be free and open to the public.
Travel times were still being worked out, so the precise time of Edwards’ speech was not known. Details are to be released as soon as possible.

The Edwards visit is not in connection with the dedication of the Wellstone Memorial, which honors Sen. Paul Wellstone and his wife who were killed in a plane crash in Minnesota two years ago this month.

1. good deal!
The Iron Rangers have done a lot to build the DFL in Minnesota, and they're too often taken for granted.

2. This is how Wellstone won Minnesota.
Conventional wisdom was that Democrats wouldn't win the "Iron Range" because people there are traditionally socially more conservative. But Wellstone would always go up there and talk about economic policy, and they'd end up voting for him.

This is a brilliant move on the Kerry/Edwards team's part, and this should lock in Minnesota as a Kerry state.
