Treasury Debt Prices Slip
Treasury Debt Prices Slip
October 15, 2004 5:34:00 PM ET

By Ellen Freilich

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Treasury debt prices slipped on Friday after a jump in U.S. retail sales and a speech by Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan persuaded bond investors that the Fed would continue to push interest rates higher.

In his remarks, Greenspan said record oil prices were unlikely to cause the pain they did in the 1970s and that he thought the world economy could adjust to higher-priced oil.

Well, it's good to know we aren't going to have any more pain, huh?

1. Bullsquat..............
after the election the price of gasoline is going to skyrocket. It's being artificially depressed at the moment due to the Oil Industry's quest to keep Bush in office at any cost. They're losing millions daily to keep the Idiot in Chief in office. After the election is over, whoever wins, prices will top out around $3.00 a gallon in most of the U.S. Then we'll see how much the economy is "unaffected".

2. I can almost no longer afford my job.
I pay out of pocket travel expenses and the mileage is huge and I can do over two hundred miles in a day easy. Car that is decent on gas but still I am losing money every time I drive.

Gas prices have more than tripled where I am in four-five years (I remember at one point paying 68 cents a gallon at a discount gas place in the late 90's. Then it went up to 100, then 120, then 140 (and I remember when 140 was a good price).

It is killing me. I know it is killing millions of people.

Let's not even talk about heating oil in the NE.

I was lucky to get 142 a gallon

5. We had to move so I could afford mine.
I lived about an hour away from work in a beautiful neighborhood with wonderful schools and I ended up having to move closer to work which puts me in a horrible neighborhood with terrible schools. It was that or quit my job and end up homeless.
