Channel 8 news here is just announcing that voters disenfranchised
by unscrupulous voter registration companies and state RNC operatives will NOT be allowed to re-register.

below is the best link I have for this story, it is being
reported live now on the news:

http://www.klas-tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1327294&nav=168XKZOq

The judge in the link has just vetoed any reregistration.

Nevada judge declines to reopen voter registration in Vegas area

<snip>
Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair said she was presented with evidence of just two voters who might have been disenfranchised by having their registration forms ripped up, and said that did not justify reopening the registration process.

<snip>
The Democratic party's lawsuit accused Voters Outreach of America, a private canvassing company hired by the Republican National Committee, of destroying Democratic registration forms collected in the Las Vegas and Reno areas.

Nevada state law requires anyone registering voters to accept and submit forms regardless of a voter's party affiliation.

<snip>
(Eric) Russell's affidavit said he was instructed to register only Republicans, and that he saw a supervisor tear up completed registration forms from Democrats.

:wtf: How can it be just TWO voters when the article is stating people in both Las Vegas AND Reno???

News Flash
Judge denies reopening voter registration
District Judge Valerie Adair denied a request by the Democratic Party that she order Clark County officials to reopen voter registration. Democrats contend a company linked to the Republican Party trashed voter registration documents completed by potential Democratic voters. The judge said there is no way to ensure those voters affected by the allegations would be the only ones to register if she granted the Democrats' request to reopen voter registration.

After John Kerry is elected. these creeps that have provably subverted our democratic process must be arrested, convicted, and sentenced to maximum security state prisons for a minimum of ten years without parole.

Next to child molesters, these are by far the most disgusting, dangerous, and perverse criminals that are roaming freely on our streets.

They are 'molesting" every person in America.

Lock these traitors up, and throw away the key.

Court Ruling Expected on Voter Registration Allegations
Election history could be made in a Las Vegas courtroom this afternoon. A judge is expected to rule on whether to re-open voter registration in Clark County. Allegations of widespread fraud in private voter registration were uncovered in an Eyewitness News report earlier this week. Investigative reporter George Knapp reports at 4, 5 & 6.

14. Cheer up: Record voter registrations in Nevada
Nye County registrants flocked to the clerk's office in recent days. Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax said that at the Clark County Government Center late Tuesday election officials were "absolutely swamped. There was a line a quarter-mile long. There were hundreds of people in line."

In Washoe County, election officials said people wanting to register crowded into the registrar's office throughout the day.

In Clark and Washoe counties, where 85 percent of all Nevada voters live, the preliminary registration total was more than 913,000. That's up nearly 232,000 from the totals in the two counties at the start of the year.

A breakdown shows a gain of about 95,000 Democrats and an increase of about 83,000 Republicans in the two counties.

http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=345

Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair told the Associated Press she wants people whose voter registration applications might have been torn up to be allowed to vote, but apparently not enough to actually allow them to vote.

In a ruling this evening, Adair ruled that re-registration Monday for a small number of Clark County residents whose applications to vote might have been destroyed by a Republican-funded group could not go forward. It was reported tonight on the Las Vegas television station KLAS.

Disgusting.

After John Kerry is elected, all of the GOP members that have participated in this nationwide conspiracy to commit fraud in order to overthrow our democratic government must be identified, charged, arrested, convicted, and sentenced to a minimum of 10 years without parole in a maximum security prison.

The rest of the GOP nazi wannabes will think twice about doing this again any time soon.

17. This could work to our advantage
The RNC has their panties twisted in a knot because volunteers have been registering Dem voters 10:1 over Republicans. But it could backfire on the GOP:

"How extensive is the Bush-Cheney absentee ballot campaign in Nevada? In Clark County alone it has sent out more than 370,000 absentee ballot request forms to voters -- and there are only 224,000 registered Republicans in Clark County."

35. This is EXACTLY why I say
that in addition to all our BBV problems, we absolutely MUST start concentrating on voting laws in all the states -- AND why we need a Constitutional Right to Vote Amendment. Far too often when voting issues get to court, either the laws don't support what needs to be done (to further the goals of democracy), or the judge is sanguine about the matter, or the legal penalties (for fraud, etc.) amount to no more than a slap on the wrist. THIS HAS TO STOP.

Vote shenanigans ought to be a FELONY, and there ought to be serious prison time involved with even "minor" vote fraud. Vote suppression ought to be treated seriously as well.

Write it down and remember it well: WE NEED A RIGHT TO VOTE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

from the article:

"Earlier, Adair said she was concerned about opening what she called “floodgates” to manipulation of the voter rolls. The judge held an emergency hearing this morning on a Nevada Democratic Party lawsuit accusing a canvassing company called Voters Outreach of America of collecting and destroying Democratic registration forms in the Las Vegas and Reno areas."

She doesn't realize this WILL open the "floodgates" to Dems crying foul and contesting the NV results.

34. Story so far! The judge heard a request early this morning
between the local DNC and Clark County Election Dept.
Judge Valerie Adair agreed in principle that ballots
had been destroyed and that some unknown number of voters
had been disenfranchised. She then told the two parties
to reach a compromise agreement and report back to her this
afternoon. Apparently somebody got to Adair ( a repugnant )
because when the parties returned with their compromise
agreement she refused to ALLOW TO THEM TO PRESENT IT. She
also refused to allow any witnesses to testify or allow
any materials to be presented as evidence. She said only
a small number, say 10 or 15 people had been disenfranchised
whereas in the morning she agreed that the number was unknown.

According to the reporter, a well endowed third party (unspecified)
is coming in to appeal the case.

the lower courts with individuals who are more loyal to right-wing ideology than with justice and representation for the people.

So * has multiple layers of protection for his corrupt practices because his hand-picked judges will be firmly in place for *whatever comes up*, like pesky disenfranchised voters who might vote against him, for instance.

There's a committee already investigating the American elections.

49. Except
that the UN cannot do anything here without the invitation of the current government.

And, I have to be honest. I will defend my country from all enemies foreign or DOMESTIC!!! But, I do not want the UN or any other country coming here and butting their noses in. It is up to the people of this country to take care of OUR country.

59. And what
makes you think that makes it OUR country then?

Perhaps we should have the UN or other governments help to impose the will of some (even if it is the majority) of our citizens on our government and out people.

Hmmmmmm... how about if a few European countries mass troops in Canada and then on November 3rd, they can storm across our country and round up the majority of Republicans and chase the rest into hiding. Maybe after a few months they will find Bush hiding out somewhere and bring him to justice.

Sure, sounds like a great idea!!! Wait!!! Haven't I seen this played out somewhere before???

"For the people, BY the people!"

78. They need an invitation from
the government that allows some voters to be disenfranchised? Why in the world would you support such an idea that the UN should have to be invited by a government suppressing its voters rights before looking into it?

I hope Nevada makes them pay for this. There is no such thing as a good Republican. They steal whatever they want and they are proud of their ignorance and corruption.

forced upon us, or we will be in for more of the same, only WORSE than Nazi Germany.

What they have said, by their INATION and REFUSAL to meet our ANY PUNISHMENT, that it is OK and even ENCOURAGED to lie, cheat and steal to win any way you can.

We had better grow up quick and adopt the same tactics.

53. You know what's really fucked up?
If this happened the other way around the vast majority of us (I know I would) would be admonishing the canvassers and the judge and would be ashamed that Democrats would do such a thing.

This is disgraceful, I hope that those voters have contacted the ACLU. I would be calling major news outlets too - I'd like to see those disenfranchised voters appear as a group on a morning show.

61. Take action, this can not be allowed to stand
We can not sit back and complain, when this kind of thing is happening. We have to do something - remember how in 2000 we all sat back believing everything would be OK. This is democracy damn it, and if we don't start making some real noise, on one will do it for us. Contact DNC and demand more action, contact your reps, and the Nevada reps, spread the story around, if in Nevada protest, just don't sit back and watch it happen.

73. it is frightening...
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 06:56 AM by NVwriter
...as frightening as that hideous bowl of worms!!

Rove and Bush flew here about a year ago (reno) for a meeting with the State elected Repukes and other Repukes. Repuke campaign manager supreme organized it. Had his mommy use her pathetic influence to get into Rove family connections to set up meeting. If something happens with the Nevada election, it could be traced back to that first call into the Nevada Rove family connections. Think Florida family ties.

Have to add, it was through that hard work that the Repukes in Elko County got to bring Cheney to Elko, Nevada. Population hovers around 16,000 but lies in the heart of international gold mining companies' territory.

And Poppa Bush was given a seat on the board of one of this international mines shortly after he was BEAT BY CLINTON!!! Barrick Gold Corporation.

74. What struck me from the judge's decision was the statement,
"The judge...noted that registration forms also contain a disclaimer advising registrants to submit their completed applications in person or by mail, or run the risk of not being registered if another person doesn't turn in the form properly."

Oh, it's a "Let the Buyer Beware" democracy. Better read that fine print before you vote.

This election was won years ago. The *Bush regime will not be put down. They will use whatever means they need to steal another election, and they are doing it.Your country is being torn apart by this dickwad, what you really need is more activism, not just here in DU, but all over the net, and all over the world. Most countries think that all Americans are the same, they want to control the world, ain't gonna happen. It is up to the Americans that want *Bush out to spread the word and try and convince the rest of the world that not all of you are cold blooded killers.

85. All the GOP needs to do is make a mess and throw decisions to the courts.
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 11:41 PM by Dover
It's the ONLY way they can hope to "win" this election. And the courts are the only place where the odds are in their favor.

The Numbers:

The Senate has confirmed 201 of President Bush's judicial nominations, including 35 to the circuit courts. (More than the per-term average for Presidents Clinton, Bush I or Reagan.)

Ten nominees are currently being filibustered (one of whom, Estrada, has since withdrawn). Republicans blocked over 60 of President Clinton's judicial nominees.

Lowest vacancy rate this decade - 3 percent - far lower than the unemployment rate. Currently only 28 vacancies on the federal bench (out of the 876 authorized judgeships).

26 pending nominees, two withdrawals, and one whom Bush chose not to renominate (total of 29) in contrast to the 65 Clinton nominees who were left hanging or withdrew.

President Bush has appointed 24percentof the active federal judges (20 percent of the circuit courts). In all, Republican appointees make up 55 percent of the active federal judges, including 59 percent of the active circuit court judges.

10 of the 13 circuits have Republican-appointed majorities. The Sixth Circuit is even, the Second and Ninth have D-appointed majorities, and the rest have R-appointed majorities. Several of the R-majority circuits have substantial, dominant R-majorities:

1st Cir. is 2:1 Republican

4th Cir is more than 2:1 Republican

5th Circuit is almost 3/4 Republican (73 percent)

7th Circuit is almost 3/4 Republican (73 percent)

8th Circuit is more than 3/4 Republican (82 percent)

Federal Circuit is 2:1 Republican

In contrast, none of the circuits has a 2:1 Democratic majority

2nd Circuit is almost even (7-6 Democratic-appointee majority).

9th Circuit has a Democratic majority, but still less than 2-to-1.

President Bush has not had to fill any vacancies on the Supreme Court, but since all but one of the justices on the Court are over 65, one or more vacancies next term are likely. In the last 50 years, one in four of presidents' nominees to the Supreme Court were defeated.

Despite making diversification of the federal bench a goal for his administration, President Bush has nominated more members of the Federalist Society, an ultra-conservative legal organization, than he has African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians combined. And, not one of his 35 appellate court nominees has a public record of supporting a woman's right to choose.

79 percent of Bush nominees are male

82 percent of Bush nominees are white

Only 7 percent of Bush nominees are African-American

President Bush's Nominees & Sitting Judges

President Bush's judicial nominees are far out of the mainstream. They have records indicating they would roll back critical rights and protections Americans cherish, including clean air and clean water, privacy in our homes, safety in our workplaces, and equality for all Americans.

An example of his extreme nominees is Fourth Circuit nominee William Haynes, who wrote one of the infamous memos authorizing the use of torture. The entire world witnessed the effects of such egregious behavior at Abu Graib prison, and negative ramifications will be felt for many years.

These are lifetime appointments that will far outlive any presidency. The decisions these judges make will have a lasting impact on our lives and our children's lives for decades to come.

President Bush's nominees are good for his politics and bad for the American people. They represent big business over ordinary Americans.

Fifth Circuit Court nominee Priscilla Owen took campaign donations for her Texas Supreme Court campaign from Enron and Halliburton and then ruled in their favor once she was on the bench.

Temporary Eleventh Circuit recess appointee William Pryor cast the deciding vote following the Supreme Court's decision in Lawrence v. Texas to uphold Florida's adoption law that explicitly forbids gays and lesbians from adopting children, a law so discriminatory and counterproductive that no other state has such a harsh law on its books.

Bush appointee to the D.C. Circuit Judge John Roberts and Bush recess appointee Judge Charles Pickering both cast votes suggesting that the Endangered Species Act was unconstitutional.

Ninth Circuit Judge Jay Bybee dissented from a panel decision upholding a California municipality's law requiring a minimum wage for government contractors. Bybee made the astonishing argument that this law violated the Contracts Clause of the Constitution. Since the New Deal, the federal courts have uniformly upheld minimum wage laws, and such laws clearly do not violate the Constitution as Judge Bybee's colleagues on the Ninth Circuit panel found.

Sixth Circuit Judge Julia Smith Gibbons authored a troubling opinion that seemed particularly hostile to those with disabilities. In Jones vs. City of Monroe, Judge Gibbons wrote for a 2-1 court holding that the city was not required to accommodate the plaintiff who suffered from multiple sclerosis by providing a parking space close to her job.
