Loud Blast Shakes Baghdad, Casualties Feared
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A loud explosion rocked a cafe frequented by Iraqi police near the Australian embassy in Baghdad on Sunday, witnesses said.

A Reuters cameraman said there were many casualties at the scene, which was cordoned off by police as ambulances rushed in.

The cause of the blast and the exact number of casualties was not immediately clear.

Police appeared to be having a late evening meal during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

1. The cause of the blast was unknown? Hey, I bet we can guess though,
can't we? It's just another sign of how successful Operation Enduring What-the-fuck is going.

10. Update: Car bomb blamed for Baghdad blast
<snip>
A CAR bomb exploded today in Baghdad's Jadriyah district, targeting an Iraqi patrol and causing an undetermined number of casualties, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.

Ministry officials said they were uncertain how many casualties resulted from the blast, which occurred near Ahmed Ourabi Square.
The Reuters news agency earlier reported an explosion at a cafe near the Australian embassy in Baghdad, with multiple casualties.

The embassy is based in Babylon District, Jadriyah.

Emergency vehicles were seen rushing toward the area this morning.
