Australia rejects UN troops request (to Iraq)
The Foreign Minister has confirmed Australia has rejected suggestions it send more troops to Iraq to help protect the United Nations mission there.

It is understood Australia is one of many countries informally approached to help with security for the UN assistance mission in Iraq.

But a spokesman for the Minister, Alexander Downer, says the Australian Government has already made a substantial commitment to Iraq and it will not be sending more troops.

3. Is it possible they are trying to break the UN?
Would Howard say the same if Bush asked him directly instead on the UN?

7. My guess - protecting the UN would put Australian troops
in the firing line - dead Australians wouldn't go down well at home.
