President Bush To Campaign In New Jersey
President Bush To Campaign In New Jersey

Oct 17, 2004 2:46 pm US/Eastern

(1010 WINS) (EVESHAM, N.J.) President Bush was scheduled to appear Monday at his first campaign rally in New Jersey, another sign that Republicans believe they can win a state that has voted for Democratic presidential candidates in the last three elections.

The appearance at the Evesham Recreation Center comes one week after Vice President Dick Cheney's appearance in the same part of Burlington County, a county where Republicans dominate local politics.

Some Democrats have characterized the recent top-of-the-ticket Republican stumping in New Jersey as a ploy to get Democrats to spend their money there as well.

Statewide polls have shown Sen. John Kerry with a lead in New Jersey — but Republicans say the polls they've commissioned have shown the race to be much tighter than that.So far, Kerry has not campaigned in New Jersey, a state with 15 electoral votes. But in the past month, Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards has been in New Jersey twice....

in any scenario in which he wins new jersey, he's winning anyway even without new jersey.

6. Bingo
Rove did this in 2000. He had Bush campaign in California late in the game to make the public think Bush was so far ahead he could afford to spend time in a blue state. In fact, the race was much closer than the WH would let on, and that's the case now.

BTW, while he's there maybe he can stop in Hamilton Township near Trenton where Pickles was confronted by Ms. Niederer whose son was killed in Iraq. I'd like to see the fucking piece of shit himself confronted on his illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. Chimpy, The Leader. Too fucking much!

7. He knows the press will cover
it as Bush the bold leader who will go anywhere to fight terror.

Bush has a terrible record for fighting terrorism. He ignored it completely until 9/11. Then he let proxies fight the war in Afghanistan. Then he stared ignoring finding Bin Laden at all. Then he passed on plans that might have taken out Zarqawi.

There is no way Bush should be ahead in who can better handle terror. Kerry and crew better get an ad and some emphasis to fight back on this news story tomorrow. Kerry has never even used the Zarqawi thing or followed up on Bush's lie in the debate.

For the last few days, the Kerry crew has been talking about flu shots and losing points.

I hate to sound too suspicious, but this would be handy cover if they really can fix the electronic voting. "Our win in New Jersey was really no surprise - why, we even had President Bush stump here late in the campaign. People shouldn't be so suspicious."

Let him spend money and time in a futile effort.

Meanwhile, let Kerry stump in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and Nevada.

* Don't get me wrong. Bush COULD win New Jersey. But if he wins NJ he'll already be winning in a nationwide landslide. Any other scenario and expect Kerry to thump Bush.

And the chicken-shit picks the second most repug town in the whole area, Marlton.

Cheney picked Medford, the most repug town last week.

Other than those two towns, no one here is voting for him. It's a ploy to make him appear as though he's doing better in other places, so he can grace us with his almighty presence. He knows he is losing in PA, so he's got to make a good showing in the Philly market.

GET OUT OF NJ, AND GO BACK TO TEXAS!!!!!!

18. Here in Ocean County...
The Bush/Cheney signs and stickers outnumber the Kerry/Edwards stickers by at least 10 to 1 (Bay Head is particularly disturbing in this matter). I've always insisted that the North Jersey folks have a better grasp of reality than the South Jersey folks. I took a ride through Glen Ridge, in Essex County, the other day. It's one of the toniest towns in the state, and I saw numerous Kerry signs, but no Bush signs. What does that tell you? (No offense to my fellow South Jerseyans voting for Kerry).

How sad. Not too surprising though. It's even more of a monied group now. My family had a house there when I was growing up. There was quite a bit of anti-semitism and moralistic hypocrites galore. Luckily, I found friends who shared my liberal and somewhat rebellious tendencies.

49. Update on Ocean County...
I decided to take a drive through a few towns in my county today, just for the heck of it. To lend some credence to what I said about most South Jerseyans (particularly my fellow residents of Ocean County) lacking a grasp of reality, I saw three bumper stickers that particulary nauseated me. In Point Pleasant, I saw one pick-up truck with the Bush/Cheney sticker (which offends me enough) PLUS a sticker beneath that saying "Kill them all, let Allah sort 'em out". Almost immediately after that, I see a beat up Toyota with numerous Vietnam Veteran stickers, including one that said "Vietnam Vets are better off in the Bush". In Lakewood, I came across a van saying "John Kerry is bin-Laden's candidate. Mine is George W. Bush" (umm, Chimpyboy is friends with the bin-Laden family, from what I've heard). Then I head down Route 9 and turn off into Pine Beach, and I see this neanderthal punk-ass kid holding a Kerry/Edwards sign. Originally I thought, "hey, great, he's putting up a Kerry/Edwards sign!". I proceed to see this punk crumple up the sign and spit on it. I gave him my trademark dirty look, but he didn't notice (I swear, if I yelled something, his inbred family would probably come out of nowhere and ambush my car.) Ocean Gate was a breath of fresh air. Surprisingly, LOTS of Kerry/Edwards signs there.

20. Silly Whores, don't you remember this BS gimmick in 2000? We do.
"More importantly, Bush also campaigned in several states...including Illinois and Pennsylvania. The effort in Illinois indicates the confidence the Bush campaign must feel with their overall position. The Bush campaign continues to run commercials in California..."

And here's Chimp's mid September schedule from 2000:

Bush Rally - Pomona, California - Thursday, September 14
George W.Bush At The Los Angeles County Fair
Bush Rally - San Diego, California - Friday, September 15

Of course the craven mediawhores fall or pretend to fall for KKKarls idiot hoodoo every time. The rest of us just chuckle and go about our merry way.

Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 10:51 PM by brentspeak
I've seen a LOT of Bush/Cheney signs on private lawns, from super-rich Franklin Lakes to the lower middle-class town where I presently live (Wanaque). In the past, it was pretty much a given that the country clubbers of towns like Franklin Lakes and Princeton would vote Republican. But places like Wanaque have always somewhat Democrat, or at least evenly-split.

I really believe that the steady, heavy clubbing over the head and prevalence of local talk radio and FOX News have made significant inroads on the minds of many here.

Franklin Lakes, an area with 10 million dollar homes is hardly the kind of area you'd find Kerry lawn signs. Try coming down to eastern and southern Bergen County and you'll find plenty of Kerry signs and very few Bush posters. I'm not worried. NJ will not go red.

just said they will be covering "this very important speech live...More free press...My only solace is that one of my best friends who is a 52 year old priest living in a NJ shore stronghold claims that Kerry is going to win. He says that all of his parishioners are Republicans but a growing number are disgruntled.

Hopefully some of the truly fed up ones where he lives will stay home. Pray that NJ Democrats get out the vote. That's alot of EVs to be screwing around with. It would not hurt for the ticket to show it's face once before election day...

..then again..Bush & Co could be yanking their chains...who here is on the grounds there?

seems to pretty liberal for a Catholic church. We had one priest who pretty much endorsed Kerry in his sermon (he denounced "one candidate's smearing of another's military service" and ended with "on Election Day, I think it's time for a change"). Quite a few Kerry stickers on cars in the lot too (and one "Vote Democrat" sticker also), though I saw my first Bush sticker this Sunday.
