Kerry could heal NATO's wounds but tensions to linger: analysts
BRUSSELS (AFP) - US-European tensions within NATO (news - web sites) are unlikely to disappear if George W. Bush is ousted from the White House, but a victory for John Kerry (news - web sites) may help pave the way to a better understanding, pundits say.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is only just emerging from a profound crisis that strained transatlantic relations to breaking point last year in the run-up to the US-led war in Iraq (news - web sites).

On the face of it, a victory for Bush's Democratic challenger would accelerate the healing process at the military alliance.

The French government has staved off US calls for an international conference on Iraq until after the November 2 election -- a clear sign, observers say, that Paris does not want to play into Bush's hands.

1. think this thru... why would world leaders send troops that would free up
US troops?

If Bush had any boots available we'd already be in Syria or Iran.

NATO won't back us because they know it would green light Bush to another invasion.

Kerry will heal the rift quickly
