Edwards Accuses Bush of Exploiting 9/11
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 10:07 AM by party_line
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) accused President Bush (news - web sites) on Monday of "exploiting a national tragedy for personal gain" in a blistering speech preceding Bush's own address about terrorism in a state in the shadow of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"George Bush (news - web sites) today is making one last stand to con the American people into believing that he is the only one who can fight and win the war on terrorism," the Democratic vice presidential nominee said. "John Kerry (news - web sites) defended this country as a young man. He will defend this country as president of the United States."

On a day that promised to be dominated by talk of terrorism, the North Carolina senator sought to put Bush on the defensive as the president headed into what his aides called a major speech on terrorism in southern New Jersey.

Edwards, speaking at a seaside park in this battleground state, argued that Bush "claims steady leadership but offers a steady stream of failure." He accused the president of "creating a new haven for terrorists" and assailed him for failing to capture the mastermind of the attacks, Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).
.....
Accusing the president of using scare tactics, Edwards added: "George Bush is playing on people's deepest fears. He's exploiting a national tragedy for personal gain."

2. Bravo, just keep pounding the message clearly to America. I believe
Americans are opening their eyes to the Bush lies. Let's take this country back and I propose sending the entire Bush family to Iraq in exile from this great country of democracy. Send Jeb with them since he doesn't believe in honest elections here at home!

5. But this is the day to hit them hard with it, because of Bush's speech
Today, Bush will try to turn the race back to terrorism where he always scores high. Now is when his incompetence and exploitive nature has to be dealt with.

John goes pretty far in his remarks here and that's better than having Kerry at 100% negativity level.

6. and this maladministration acts as though its
steady stream of failure is a freakin' success.

What a load of poop. There have been no successes for the citizens of this country under their misleadership, only horrific and dreadful losses.

You go John!

7. Hmmm, backhanded compliment to Cynthia McKinney
One wonders if John Edwards will see fit to issue a true apology on behalf of the Democratic party to the woman anytime soon.

I think we've heard these words before - and the courageous woman who uttered them first was forced out of office because of them.

You can just feel the confidence and power in this guy. The energy that was pouring out of him was incredible.

Edwards is kicking butt and taking names. Watch out Bush Co. There is no stopping us anymore. Time to re-examine your 401K's

15. People voting on issue of terrorism

If terrorism is your main criteria for voting, you need to know how it was addressed before 9/11.

The world did not change on 9/11.

We knew about terrorism, we had already been attacked, and we knew they would try again.

Where was Bush on this prior to having to bow to the popular opinion that started on 9/11?
