Problems reported as Florida voters begin casting early ballots

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Floridians began casting early ballots Monday for next month's presidential election and within an hour problems cropped up in the state synonymous with voting messes.

In Palm Beach County, the center of the madness during the 2000 presidential recount, a state legislator said she wasn't given a complete absentee ballot when she asked not to use the electronic touch-screen machines. And in Orange County, the touch-screen system briefly crashed, paralyzing voting in Orlando and its immediate suburbs.

State Rep. Shelley Vana, D-Lantana, was the seventh person in line Monday at a Palm Beach County early voting site. She said the paper absentee ballot she received was missing one of its two pages, including the proposed amendments to the state constitution. She said election workers were indifferent when she pointed out the oversight.

*sadly, much more*

2. Sad to hear about this, but glad it happened NOW!
At least it's better than happening on election day! This shold hit the mass media big time, and further embarrass the Jeb Boy! Maybe he'll put enough pressure on his people to get these things fixed within 2 weeks.

3. Connected to the internet???
"She said she did not know what caused the problem, but speculated a faulty Internet connection may have been to blame."

I thought the machines were NOT connected to the internet! BBVers?

4. That was my reaction also.
Supposedly the black box voting machines are impervious to Internet hacking because they aren't on line.

What's another lie on the pile?

10. I don't think the computers referred to are the actual voting machines
Although I freaked out at first too. The next paragraph explains a little better what I think they were talking about:

In Broward County, several of the 14 sites had trouble linking the laptop computers at polling stations with the supervisor's office, said Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman at the Secretary of State Glenda Hood's office. The computers are used to confirm voter eligibility. Workers used paper lists and called the supervisor's office in Fort Lauderdale to verify eligibility, Nash said.

7. I wish there was a judge in Florida that WASN'T a crook....
Someone that could force government officials to comply with vote tampering laws, and election law. I'm just at a complete loss as to what needs to happen to clean up this mess, besides putting all the neocons in jail where they belong.

This is going to be a MESS!!!

8. If wishes were horses...
There is very little chance of a fair election in Florida, and there isn't anything we can do about it.

9. But Jeb and Glenda have been telling us for the last 3 years
that they had total confidence in these systems and that nothing would go wrong because they were so reliable.

If this election is tainted in any way, it is totally their fault.

12. People, carry a pen and notepad with you to the polls when you vote
If you have problems with any poll workers, write down their name and ID number, the time and any identifying ballot number. You will need this for the court cases that are going to follow. By all means, RAISE HELL!! You see this is what the Rethugs did in 2000 and it got them the results they wanted. The squeaky wheel still gets the oil.

13. Computer problems reported at some early voting sites
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-1018earlyvoting,0,5840047.story?coll=sfla-ho

Problems were being reported at nine of 14 early voting sites in Broward County on Monday morning.

Gisela Salas, of the Broward Elections Office, said workers were having problems with a live database connection that is used to verify that a voter is properly registered.

A live database connection? Probably a combination of hackers and MS-Access!
