With an hour to go, the volume is running at only slightly above average, so it's not a rout. Just insufficient buying to overcome the selling.

34. An underweight stock is expected to perform worse than the sector as...
...a whole. It doesn't mean that the price will not rise; it is forecast to underform within its industry/classification. In other words, it isn't quite a sell if investors are very bullish on the sector as a whole. It certainly isn't a buy though; an underweight company is expected to lag behind within its industry. A hold if the sector is performing at a torrid pace; usually a sell otherwise.

Hope that clears it up

Picked up a lot during last hour, though it didn't drive the price lower during the same time. Looks like some folks thought it was cheap enough to buy some.

Sinclair made TheStreet.com's "Five dumbest things on Wall Street this week."

http://www.thestreet.com/_yahoo/markets/dumbestgm/10188019_3.html

"What we do know is that Sinclair's desire to inform the public -- or what critics call an illegal, disguised political contribution to President Bush -- could have some unintended economic consequences. Maybe. "

...
Two points we might bring up, though. One, Sinclair is already hurting; the company lowered third-quarter guidance, citing auto advertising weakness and ad cancellations stemming from hurricane season.

Two, Sinclair is due to report third-quarter earnings on Nov. 4, two days after Election Day. However the presidential election turns out -- assuming we'll even know how it has turned out by then -- we wouldn't be surprised if that day's earnings call is a little noisier than normal.

14. Number 4 on The Five Dumbest Things on Wall Street This Week
"Will Sinclair Broadcast Group have an effect on the presidential election? Or will the presidential election have an effect on Sinclair?

(snip)

Some of Sinclair's critics on the left are trying to hit the company where it hurts: The wallet. The Web site www.boycottsbg.com, for example, is compiling listings of Sinclair's local and national advertisers; the idea is to pressure these companies, with the threat of an advertiser boycott, to pressure Sinclair into pulling the documentary. Another site, StopSinclair.org, has also sprung up."

< snip >

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of the controversial Sinclair Broadcasting Group slipped almost 8 percent Monday in the aftermath of the political firestorm that the company created last week.

Sinclair's stock (SBGI: news, chart, profile) fell 55 cents to $6.49.

The shares dropped amid fresh concerns on Wall Street, with analysts fretting over what looms as a loss of advertising revenue for Sinclair. Some securities analysts, who demanded not to be quoted on record, said that they're concerned about the potential development.

Sinclair, which owns the largest chain of TV stations in the United States, had told its stations to broadcast a documentary that accuses Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry of betraying American prisoners during the Vietnam War.

28. E-mailing advertisers in massive numbers
should be done to both kinds.

While we deluge the "bad" advertisers with boycott e-mails, let us not forget the "good" advertisers so we can deluge them with e-mails showing our support and that we'll use their products/services preferentially.

Can someone on DU compile a list of the "good" advertisers as well?

38. Well, all i can say...
Is that short selling Sinclair netted The Kerry Camp, The DNC and MoveOn some nice contributions today. A check was delivered to a Kerry office in Maryland (where Sinclair is located) with a story on just how the money was made.

Next, if the blood is still in the water in the morning, is enough for tickets to the Inaugural Ball. I hope to clear another 3k tomorrow.

And I owe it all to Freeperville and their plan to buy up the Vote for Change tour tickets, scalp them, and give the money to Bush. They talked. I acted...
