Israel ready to move against Iran's nuclear facilities
Israel ready to move against Iran's nuclear facilities after transfer of advanced U.S. munitions

Israel is preparing for military action against Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor and other nuclear facilities, including underground plants and storage depots, U.S. defense officials say. Officials said a recent transfer of 5,000 bombs to Israel is likely preparation for the attacks.

We have been hearing bits and pieces about this for some time. Now that we have given Isreal the weapons to destory Iran's nuclear facilities I am wondering when will they attack. Will Sharon wait until after the election to attack? And, the big question is how would this effect our presidental race if Isreal attacks Iran?

1. Your Source Also Says A Lot Of Material Left Iraq & Went To Syria
which seems like a specious claim at this point.

"Duelfer confirms 'a lot of material left Iraq and went to Syria'"

I wouldn't put this past Sharon and the Likudniks.

4. Regardless we know about the weapons
transfer from the US to Isreal and we have known about it for some time.

Then the question becomes does Sharon use the weapons we gave them and if he does will he use them before the election?

8. Meanwhile the nut-case right-wing Israelis have nukes
Nuclear weapons in the hands of any fundamentalist religious idiots is a threat to the whole world -- and ISRAEL SHOULD NOT BE EXEMPT from International oversight and supervision.

Any of these nuts scares the hell out of me -- as well as bushie the nut with his finger on the nuke buttons.

The list of nuts is long -- will the Sharon fools try to attack them all WITH bombs "made in the USA"?

Save us all from Fundy nuts! of any religion.

3. Consider the source
Next item on the page is "Duelfer confirms 'a lot of material left Iraq and went to Syria'"

Perhaps they have an agenda.

6. They do have an agenda
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 08:14 PM by ECH1969
That doesn't mean we didn't give the weapons to Sharon. Hell, even the NY Times has talked about us giving those weapons to Sharon.

The question then becomes will they use those weapons and when.

12. attack PNAC through a 527 ad, independent of the Kerry campaign...
at least that would give Americans a heads up as to why we are now more exposed to terrorism.

15. JPAK, ugh...
You're right. Except about the "Kerry who" part, in my opinion. Now, my Worst Fear up to this moment was an invasion of Taiwan shortly before the elections by China. I had naively considered it to be the worst possible thing that could happen for the election. You have shown me that I need to start cutting my veggies with a sharper knife.

Indeed, your thought is odious, repulsive and in every way repellent to me. However, it is also a very shrewd one. Bolstered by the likelihood that Israel will actually do this before our elections, I am reeling as to how this should be handled if it comes to pass.

Excellent analysis, sir or madam.

20. I do too, but of all the possible things that could happen in the...
..next 15 or so days, this is the one that's got the most tumblers in the lock sprung. All the ideas I've heard or conceived of up to this point involved some unseen impetus to cause the party involved to spring into action before the election. However, I am familiar with the current Israeli regime and their behavior. I think if you were to put all the possible scenarios that might cause chaos during the election, especially chaos disfavorable to Democrats, on a board and voted on which was most likely to happen, you know this would garner the most votes, hands-down. That's the most depressing part about it. I've been doing lots of unconscious heavy sighing during the last hour or so. I hope it's unfounded.

To quote my girlfriend "I hope you and that guy are wrong. Because if you aren't, we're up shit crick.". I don't think shit crick is where we're headed, but the ride would certainly get bumpier if it happened. And with the mass media all too happy to help shake the boat for effect, could be very bumpy indeed.

16. Israel may not find it so easy to strike the Iranian nuclear facilities as
they did a few years back. And they might just find out that they won't come out of this unscathed. In fact, the Iranians have said that they'll fight back this time.

And what of the other Arab countries in the Middle East. This won't be a red flag for them to start a real 'jihad'? This ain't going to be no cakewalk this time. And I think that this very well could be the act that sets the world on fire.

22. Only a small portion of the world will ignite
If any "real jihad" that started throwing their few nukes at Israel or a lucky strike against a limited west coast target the US and Israel would certainly set their world on fire. Too many people would die and there would be no winner but there would certainly be a bigger loser.

18. If Sharon attacked before 11-02, it certainly would divert media attention
even further away from Bush's inadequacies, while The Great Impostor would stand up and trumpet great strides forward in the "War on Terror." That should be good for a few more points.

If a strike came right after the election, it could shield GOP operatives from intense media scrutiny while they manipulate election results and legal challenges.

We already know that the major media would much rather roll onto their backs and spread their legs than challenge the power of a newly re-stolen White House.

19. Congress had better get hopping. The VA claims for an irradiated Iran

could mean a significant reduction in profit from Operation Iranian Freedom.

Congress must immediately pass legislation excluding any illness or disability resulting from radiation from the provisions for medical care of US armed forces. And even then, death claims alone are likely to impact the bottom line.

Oil companies must act quickly to similarly amend their own employee benefit programs.

Israel simply does not have the forces necessary to occupy such a large area, even with post-blast depopulation, not to mention the potential for regional effects, not to mention the possibility of contamination of the natural resources themselves.

There is no guarantee that even Israel proper could have some unintendeds, which could reduce the number of usable troops available to help staff the occupation. Iran is about 3 or 4 times the size of Iraq.
