Gore says Bush deceived public on Iraq
Gore says Bush deceived public on Iraq
October 19, 2004 - 4:14PM

Former US vice president Al Gore has accused President George W Bush of intentionally deceiving the US public about the reasons for invading Iraq and said he is so ideologically driven that he refuses to admit - or even learn from - his mistakes.

"It is beyond incompetence - it is recklessness that risks the safety and security of the American people," Gore said during a speech at Georgetown University.

The Democratic presidential nominee in 2000 and loser of that bitterly contested election, Gore complained that Bush's refusal to budge from "a rigid, right-wing ideology" has led him to forbid any dissent and ignore warnings that may conflict with his assumptions about Iraq, tax cuts and other policy issues.

"He is arrogantly out of touch with reality," Gore said. "He refuses to ever admit mistakes. Which means that so long as he is our president, we are doomed to repeat them."

1. Gore is so polite...bush lied his fcking ASS off.
His entire cabal did and still do lie their asses off about Iraq. And Afghanistan.

LOVED the National Memorial Service bush held for our fallen, though.

Oh wait, he hasn't bothered to do any National Memorial for our fallen...THREE YEARS LATER for Afghanistan and almost TWO YEARS LATER for Iraq.

4. More troops killed already in Iraq, than during first 5 years of Vietnam
Maybe he's waiting for 60,000 troops killed in Iraq; gotta beat that Vietnam figure of 58,000.

5. Never heard this stat. before. Bush DOESN'T seem worried about the time
element at all. As long as he can write the checks and others pay them, he's got nothing to lose. He's "FREE" to play God perpetually, no doubt, if he gets back into the office for which he was not elected. He'll find a way to make it his permanent residence.

The rest of the world will wait for his commands, if he can articulate them. His advisors should be damned proud of themselves. They have, by aiding him, completely screwed the country, and made a mockery of our "democracy."

US War Dead in Iraq Exceeds Early Vietnam Years; November 14, 2003 (this was at 397 dead US troops; we're now at 1101.)

The U.S. death toll in Iraq has surpassed the number of American soldiers killed during the first three years of the Vietnam War, the brutal Cold War conflict that cast a shadow over U.S. affairs for more than a generation.

Troops in Iraq Killed at Rates Approaching Vietnam War-Era Levels

The last time U.S. troops experienced a two-week loss such as this one in Iraq was October 1971, two years before U.S. ground involvement ended in Vietnam.

The Vietnam War started with a slower death rate. The United States had been involved in Vietnam for six years before total fatalities surpassed 500 in 1965.

3. Gore is largely ignored since he went off script
Now that he thinks for himself, without the DLC as chaperon, Gore is very much worth listening to. In his passionate speeches he rages against the machine--and it's the voice of a man who is finally his own man. If he continues in this vein, Gore could become the next Robert Byrd.

No wonder he's marginalized today. Lesson: corporate centrism only has any use for you while you're playing its game.
