MP to observe US elections

Labour MP Anglu Farrugia is to be a member of the OSCE Election Observation Mission to the 2004 American presidential and congressional elections which take place on November 2.

Dr Farrugia told The Times that it was likely he would be based in Ohio, which is expected to be one of the most hotly contested states in the presidential election. "It could be another Florida," he said, in reference to the disputed 2000 presidential election in that state.

The observers of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe are to be briefed in Washington DC between October 28-29 at the US House of Representatives.

Deployment to the states of Florida, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio and the Washington area (D.C., Maryland and Virginia), where the results are expected to be close, will take place from October 30 to November 3.
