U.S. says poses no threat to N.Korea

BEIJING, Oct 19 (Reuters) - The United States does not pose a threat to North Korea and has no intention of invading, a U.S. official said on Tuesday, urging Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear ambitions in exchange for possible security assurances.

"We have no intention of posing a threat to North Korea. We are not intending to invade North Korea and we are prepared to provide the kind of security assurances that might be welcomed by North Korea," Alan Larson, undersecretary of state for economic affairs, told Peking University students.
