Google 'saved' Australian hostage
BBC News

John Martinkus was working for Australia's SBS Television

An Australian journalist kidnapped in Iraq was freed after his captors checked the popular internet search engine Google to confirm his identity.

John Martinkus was seized in Baghdad on Saturday, the first Australian held hostage in Iraq since the US-led invasion.

But his captors agreed to release him after they were convinced he was not working for the CIA or a US contractor.

He was reported to be making his way home to Australia on Tuesday.

2. Wow... just wow, not about Google exactly, but how intent they are
on targeting the CIA and US contractors.

3. This guy did some of the best reporting from East Timor...
when all the bloodshed was taking place. He stayed behind to report there when the Indonesians were running amok and killing everyone in sight. I still remember hearing some of his live reports.

Word is that he's brought back some very interesting stuff from Baghdad - we'll find out in about a week when it airs.

4. Just one more for principles
I wouldn't think them people picked up off the street indiscriminately in Iraq who were held or even tortured got the same treatment from US forces.

5. Now the CIA will SPAM Google
Whenever they want to place false index items.

Wonderful...the internet's version of false information: Planted lies in the search index

Think I'm being paranoid? Think it can't happen here? Think again. I'll bet the Google and every other major search index is already rife with CIA and government placed lies.

6. Most major US media. Check out "Into The Buzzsaw" by Borjesson for more..
Her book, a collection of essays by investigative journalists exposes just how in bed the media is with our govt. and it's law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

it's really a disheartening read.
