State Jobless Benefits Have Run Out For 3 Million
"About 3 million unemployed Americans have exhausted their state jobless benefits and are ineligible for further federal aid, according to a policy research organization.

Among that number are 58,800 Missourians and 27,600 Kansans, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities said last week.

Only about 34,000 unemployed U.S. workers continued to receive benefits under the federal Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation program, said researcher Isaac Shapiro.

EDIT

Job hunters who exhausted their regular state unemployment benefits after Dec. 20, 2003 have not been eligible for the emergency federal benefits. Congress agreed with the White House that the economy was recovering sufficiently and the temporary extended benefits were no longer needed."

1. Now they line up for welfare. Thanks, George.
The states groan under the burden. Do the governors notice how bad this makes them look?

7. EXACTLY what I was thinking. But adds three million more to the poverty
rolls. Not that unemployment is shit either. Not enough to survive on.

Kerry needs to get this figure out there. These people count. They have now become invisible for all intents and purposes, but they sure as hell count. Don't let anyone forget them.

9. Bush Supporters' Common Response.
To add insult to injury, you know what those "optimists" (ironically, angry and crabby people when challenged) over at the bush base say to our unemployed Americans? "You are just too lazy to look for a job" (conveniently ignoring the fact that their greed for maximum profits causes their fellow citizens' problems). A recent FoxNews.com poll is just one of MANY examples of this type of ignorant and CRUEL remarks. That's "patriotism", all right! Kick your fellow Americans while they are down.

10. It's a crime to be poor in America!
Bush has the solutions:
Three million more criminals - time to build bigger prisons
and bring back slavery.

Cheney says: "Let us reinstate the right to own slaves,
this is our due!"
