Cheney: United States faces threat of terrorists in cities

ANDREW WELSH-HUGGINS

Associated Press

CARROLL, Ohio - Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday evoked the threat of terrorists bombing U.S cities with nuclear or other weapons as he began a bus tour through Republican strongholds in Ohio two weeks before the election.

Cheney defended President Bush's response to the Sept. 11 attacks and questioned whether Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry was up to the challenge of combating such a threat.

"The biggest threat we face now as a nation is the possibility of terrorists ending up in the middle of one of our cities with deadlier weapons than have ever before been used against us - biological agents or a nuclear weapon or a chemical weapon of some kind to be able to threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans," Cheney said.

"That's the ultimate threat. For us to have a strategy that's capable of defeating that threat, you've got to get your mind around that concept."

41. People who support b*sh are either cowards, greedy, or stupid.
Often all three.

I can't believe what yellow-bellies Freepers are. I mean, you have a greater chance of falling out of bed and dying than being killed in a terrorist attack, yet they buy into the fear meme so completely it literally runs their lives.

Sad. And more than a little pathetic.

27. I think this is backfiring on Bush and Cheney...
There are some simpletons who would vote for Bush/Cheney because they eat up this fear stuff.. BUT, I still think that they have crossed over the line a few weeks ago, to turning OFF lots of voters who want HOPE not FEAR!

You're at a dinner party. One guy, in one corner, is talking about terrorists bombing the cities, how unsafe we all are, etc. The other corner, a guy is talking about HOW much hope he has for the Country, how Americans have the strength and cooperation to see us through anything. Okay, so where do you take your wine glass, your hors d'oevres, and sit your butt down? Which corner?

The Bush/Cheney fear show has run its course. People will choose hope.

30. The irony is painful
That a gang of murderous terrorists is flying around the USA at
state expense to spread fear and deception, is exactly right.

They are using biological weapons (bio-psyche) weapons to set the
population against itself that it will kill its own.

Yes indeed, Cheney, "That's the ultimate threat" So him and his
terrorist buddies are there to push that "concept in to your mind."

Oh, oh!! dear! protect us from the heartless mass murderer,
protect us from poverty, and disease... oh!!

The Giant Pumpkin is going to attack!

35. YES!
That's just what Cheney reminds me of! (I know, strange, but...) The Peanuts cartoons! Linus always went to see "The Great Pumpkin" come to the pumpkin patch for a mythical event that never happened and only he was convinced that it would...maybe instead of calling it "October Surprise" it should be "It's the Great Pumpkin, Cheney Brown!" Cheney sits in a pumpkin patch with a beagle and says "The terrorists are coming!" Nothing happens. And at the end of the cartoon when Cheney has been voted out of office and imprisoned for corporate fraud, he could just sit in his cell and say "AUGH!"

Good Grief!

49. If the threat of nuke attacks in cities is real,
Bush/Cheney are to blame because they gave the lion's share of the anti-terrorism funds to rural areas -- like Wyoming -- instead of to big cities that needed it. Did Bush/Cheney really think that terrorists would bother to blow up some farm in Idaho?

My mother's small town in Ohio has installed an automatic telephone call system that dials each household in the community in emergencies. And what emergencies trigger calls? How about an Alzheimers patient on the loose in his PJs? Seriously, she got a call from the system advising her of an Alzheimers patient on the loose. A terrible thing, but nothing to do with terrorism. What I would like to know: Where did her town get the money to install the system? My first guess is Homeland Security money. I also wonder how much the system cost, and what friend of what right-wing politician was paid to install it.

Meanwhile, here in a big city in California, our ports are vulnerable. I have no idea how I would know if a terrorist attack was imminent or even under way. Thanks to all the bogus terrorist alerts, our city barely has the money to keep our exhausted policemen on the streets. There certainly is no money for an emergency phone system. Thanks to Bush and Cheney and their warped priorities.

Like port security. Inpecting 100% of containers. Radiation detectors EVERYWHERE. Um get those 10,000 nukes in Russia under "control".

The question I have is......

Since the administration has done JACK SQUAT on any of the above, can it be that they actually want a nuke attack?

How whack is that?
