NBC Poll: 'As close to dead-even as it comes' (LV: 48-48 with nader)

The poll, conducted by Hart/McInturff, shows that 48 percent of registered voters back Bush, 46 percent support Kerry, and 2 percent side with Independent Ralph Nader. Those numbers are virtually unchanged from the September survey, which had Bush at 48 percent, Kerry at 45 percent, and Nader at 2 percent.

But among likely voters (defined as those expressing a high level of interest in the November election, representing 82 percent of the survey), this new poll finds Bush and Kerry tied at 48 percent each, and Nader at 1 percent. That's a change from September, when Bush led Kerry among likely voters, 50-46 percent.

it won't be that big a deal for most people.

Just like last time.

2. Dead even = equals +3 for Kerry
This is just another poll but certainly not bad news.

5. Agreed. Dead even at this late stage is very positive for the challenger.

3. It's all bullshit; their samples aren't large enough to be
statistically significant. You'd have to poll around 5,000 to get a projection that holds water, and even then, it doesn't mean ANYTHING until the actual balloting.

7. So, the LV voter sample is about 800--823 to be exact. So, what is
the MOE on that number??? This is a very small sample!!! We don't know if or how it's weighted...so what does it really mean?
Peter Hart was a Dem pollster..and still is doing the focus groups. So, now he's teamed with a GOP pollster. Peter, why??

8. Hart has always teamed with a GOP poll person - but his long time
partner died this summer and this is a new guy.

11. Nader will get far less than 1%
He'll be down with the other minor third party candidates, any one of which could throw the election.
