Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (NYSE: FSL) plans to eliminate about 1,000 jobs worldwide, mostly by the end of this year.

The former arm of Motorola employs about 3,500 in Arizona, and it's not yet known how many jobs in the state will be lost.

The company isn't specifying how many jobs will be cut at any of its locations, according to spokesman Tim Doke. Freescale's global workforce totals 22,000, including about 6,600 at its headquarters in Austin, Texas, and 8,000 in Asia.

"Reducing our infrastructure costs and rebalancing our resources generates savings that allow us to accelerate new product development, enhance technology leadership and drive greater customer intimacy across all our businesses," Michel Mayer, chairman and chief executive of Freescale, said in a statement.

Let's see, employees in Arizona, Texas and Asia - wonder who's going to get the cuts?
