Democrats register more new voters, analysis finds
The Associated Press
Published Tuesday, October 19, 2004

The Democrats appear to be gaining the upper hand in the battle to sign up new voters in the all-important swing states, an Associated Press analysis suggests.

The AP analysis of the most up-to-date figures from across the country found that in every state where complete data are available, the Democrats have registered more new voters than Republicans. They have the edge in Arizona, Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada and New Hampshire.
snip------
In New Hampshire, a state that George W. Bush won by 7,211 votes in 2000, the Democrats have signed up 6,814 more new voters than the Republicans have. The Democratic rolls rose by 3.7 percent, compared with a scant 0.2 percent for the GOP.

In Iowa, Democrats have registered 42,074 more of their supporters than the GOP - this in a state Bush lost by just more than 4,000 votes.

And the vast majority of new indies only registered so they could help us sweep *the abomination that causes desolation* out of the WH.

I take it as a good sign.

4. You're point is what interests me..
This is of course great news, getting Dem rolls up is fantastic, and honestly, I'm just excited to see anyone register to vote. Dem OR Repub, just as long as you get out and vote. My concern is how many of these people are sort of "street vendor" sign ups, like sign up here, quick and easy, then, the people never turn out to vote. I mean, if you're say 40, and you've never registered to vote, will you actually start now? I really just think voter apathy is so sad in this country. But, the news is very encouraging, I just wish more people would be involved! Seeing the late night comedy skits where they ask who the President is, for the past what? 12 years? And people know maybe 1/3 of the time? Its pretty sad...

5. That's not my big worry
My worry is that their votes won't count due to voter registration fraud ("clerical errors and compuer glitches and such," dontcha know), or outright fraud via electronic voting machines and a gazillion other ways.

6. Oh, I'd bet everyone that registered Dem or indie this year is itching
to go to the ballot box and smile with satisfaction as their vote flushes that abomination that is residing in the WH down into the sewers of history.

11. It's never too late to vote.
A neighbor of my parents was a union worker for a long time but he thought everyone was trying to take advantage of him. He made it a point not to vote because it "made no difference." I'm not sure he has ever voted.

Well, guess what. The events of the last four are bringing in a vote for Kerry this time. He is going straight ticket Dem.

I think when people feel the motivation, they vote.

13. Go vote!
It's only good news if everybody gets out and votes. The higher the turnout on Nov. 2, the better things will be for John Kerry.

19. That is the biggest worry
I'm sure a bunch just got caught up in the excitement of it all and by the time the actual election rolls around they may not be quite so motivated. In fact the likelihood that a good percentage of those newly registered voters won't even show up is fairly high. We can not let up. Nag your kids and their friends and mention to everyone you meet and pass on the sidewalk how important this election is and to make sure they vote. we can not let up for a second.

7. Washington Post Says Registrations are Equal
in an article today, except NH was up for dems and they said Ohio did not have data. Can't we even get a straight story on that?

the "special GOP friend" propagandist at AP. I'm pretty sure he put out an article like that today that ran in some papers but not sure about the WP.

I never pay attention to him because his propaganda is so laughable.

12. WaPo article is FOS
Democratic Party registrations in North Carolina are outpacing Republicans by about 1.5 to 1.

Voter registrations in Ohio set new records this year (http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1096191056165960.xml). And while the DNC won't release exact numbers, it's saying that Democrats were registered in significantly higher numbers than Republicans nationwide.

10. Makes the "likely voter" methodologies in polls even less reliable
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 12:33 AM by daleo
I believe first time voters never get included as "likely voters", so these people are all excluded in the poll reports that refer to likely voters.

17. I'll agree about NC
I have never seen so many Democratic campaign signs as I have this year in good ole NC. There are Kerry/Edwards signs and stickers EVERYWHERE. And I live in the "conservative" western part of the state. I think the Bushies are gonna be in for a shock in two weeks... some Southern state is going to turn a lovely shade of blue!

20. Madison too
Well, you sort of expect that from Madison, but there are boatloads of Kerry signs in Madison yards, and in nearby Mount Horeb there are quite a few. The few Bush signs are becoming large and obnoxious...think the Brownshirt Busheviks are feelign a wee bit threatened? :D

23. This is why most of the polling can be thrown out
How do the poll takers factor in new, first time voters. Reports I've read say that there are more new registrations this years than in years past. I'll wait until election day, just like every one else, but my money is that a lot of the pollers are whistling past the grave yard. November 2nd could easily be a Kerry blowout. By God, I can hope!
