Biden: Bush 'brain dead' on drug bill
Del. GOP says senator's remark went too far
By MIKE BILLINGTON / The News Journal
10/20/2004

Sen. Joe Biden rallied supporters for John Kerry's presidential campaign Tuesday with a blistering attack on Bush administration policies that he said hurt retirees and working-class Americans.

Biden criticized the administration's prescription drug policies and their impact on consumers. "He is brain dead," Biden said of the president. His comment was greeted with loud applause at the UAW Local 435 union hall in Cranston Heights but quickly drew the ire of Delaware Republicans.

"Sen. Biden should be ashamed of his below-the-belt rhetoric and personal attacks on the president," said David Crossan, executive director of the state's Republican Party. "Challenging policies is one thing, but calling someone 'brain dead' crosses the line."

Many of the union members and retirees who attended the rally didn't think Biden's comments were out of line.

They said in the past they often crossed party lines to support the late U.S. Sen. Bill Roth, a conservative Republican who spent more than three decades in the Senate, and continue to vote for U.S. Rep. Mike Castle, a moderate Republican. However, they would have a hard time supporting Bush, they said, because of his administration's policies.

2. It will be interesting what the men in the know say about Bush later.
No one wants to say a thing now he is president but later it will be really fun unless Bush controls for ever. It is like the Republicans want to talk and do not dare and only a few Dem. will talk now.

4. He should have been called brain dead 4 years ago
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 05:39 AM by teryang
...it's late in the game now. I'd give him an F for f.....p in his performance as the faux president. Why has his stupidity and ignorance been off limits for five years? That's the real question.

6. ashamed?
The nazi party member said Biden should be ashamed. You mean like the way the nazi party is ashamed for the way they portrayed vet Max Clelland as the best bud of Osama bin Forgotten? Or ashamed of the perpetual ad hominem attacks they do all the time on the democratic party? Give me a fscking break.

7. "JUST" the Drug Bill?
I'd say the boy is brain-dead on everything else, too.

Tells Robertson "We're not gonna HAVE any casulties!"

Told Russert "I'm not gonna LOSE!" either.

Perhaps he'll be wrong on that, too.

19. Hmmmm, maybe they have.
Maybe that's what the bulge was -- an artificial heart keeping him "alive" after they took out the real one.

Oh, what am I saying! He never had a heart to begin with!

10. David Crossan, your slip is showing...
(The Republicans) started the rumor that (John McCain) was gay, saying he had spent too much time in the Hanoi Hilton. They said he was crazy. They said his wife was on drugs. Then, to top it off, they spread pictures of his adopted daughter, who was born in Bangladesh and thus dark skinned, to the sons and daughters of the Confederacy in rural South Carolina.

To show he was not just picking on Republicans, he went after Sen. Max Cleland...Bush henchmen said he wasn't patriotic because Cleland did not agree 100 percent on how to handle homeland security. They published his picture along with Cuba's Castro, questioning Cleland's patriotism and commitment to America's security. Never mind that his Republican challenger was a Vietnam deferment case and Cleland, who had served in Vietnam, came home in a wheel chair having lost three limbs fighting for his country. Anyone who wants to win an election and control of the legislative body that badly has no moral character at all.

12. Awww, and the 'Pubbies don't like it
Well, I've been called every name in the book by Republicans for the last three years because of my opposition to Stupidhead's ill-advised imperial wars. If they don't like Bush being called brain dead, there's an easy solution: He could start acting like he grew a brain. Otherwise, I'd say the shoe fits.

15. the double standards are making me ill
The term brain dead in regards to policy is a no-no but calling Edwards the "Breck Girl" is A-OK?
These people flat out LIE and are caught RED HANDED and nothing is done.
I'm so pissed off I've lost my train of thought-something about discontinuing the terra alerts because they have been proven meaningless...

13. Tell us how you REALLY feel, Joe.
Joe Biden may have given a eulogy at Strom Thurmond's funeral and cultivated cordial relations with Jesse Helms when the latter was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but he is one orifice-ripping wild man when it comes to policy. Go get him, Joe!

18. Whining cheez-whizzes
Notice how anytime anyone criticizes them they call it "crossing the line?" Disagree with the war? You cross the line. Call a professional lesbian who toured with Mr. Leatherman '99 to break the beer boycott a lesbian? You cross the line. Call weewee brain dead? You cross the line. Don't like the weecowboy's tie? You cross the LINE!!!

They'd better get used to the line crossing--because all of us are crossing that damn line on Nov 2, and he can cross the line into Crawford on Jan 20.

Will someone tell this moron, Mr. Crossan, that the brain is normally above the belt? Well, actually, come to think of it, maybe he was telling the truth since Bush has his head up his ass anyway.
