Anti-Gay EU Official Moves To Save Job

Embattled incoming European Justice Commissioner Rocco Buttiglione has moved to head off a full scale crisis for the EU Parliament.

In a letter to Barroso, Buttiglione said that "I deeply regret the difficulties and problems that have arisen", and offered to give up responsibility for enforcing the EU's laws on discrimination and sexual harassment.

Barroso will meet with European Parliament leaders in a bid to secure support for a confidence vote expected next week, but it is not known if Buttiglione's offer will be enough to save Barros's cabinet.

Sure Barroso can come up with a pen pushing job where this idiot can do no harm. Commissar in charge of sharpening the pens should be OK.

AFAIK Socialists have already rejected this offer is not enough and I'm sure it's not good enough for Greens and GUE/NGL (left to the Socialists). Liberals might go both ways. Also the Anti-EU populist nutters will use every possibility to embarrasse the EU, so even though there is right wing majority in the EP, Barroso has hard time getting the majority support for his Commission.
