Pilot dies after US chopper crashes in Afghanistan
KABUL (AFP) - The pilot of a US military Black Hawk helicopter died when the aircraft crashed near Afghanistan (news - web sites)'s western city of Herat, a United Nations (news - web sites) spokesman said.

The helicopter was on a mission to rescue an electoral educator who had been accidentally shot by his armed escort and needed to be taken to hospital, spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva told a briefing in Kabul.

But the Black Hawk crashed as it approached the scene and the US airman was killed, he said. The US military earlier said the accident was caused by technical problems and had injured two crew members

2. contaminated fuel anyone?
could it be that the helicopter crashed because it had tainted fuel from the 347th?

"...rescue an electoral educator who had been accidentally shot by his armed escort and needed to be taken to hospital..."

Listen people, things over there are worse than we thought. ugh

3. I think the tainted fuel was in Iraq, not Afghanistan
At least not so far. But, I agree, things probably are worse than we think, or at least than we are being told. In both places.

7. Soldier's names
Any way to find out the names of the pilots? My cousin was recently sent back to the ME and he couldnt tell us where he was going. He's a helicopter pilot (guardsman called up to active status) and he said everything leading to his deployment, after more than a year of war, is still the biggest cluster fuck you've ever seen. His time over there is really concerning me.
