Muslims Give Kerry Qualified Endorsement
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 05:40 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB

<snip>

Major American Muslim groups gave what they called a "qualified endorsement" Thursday to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), urging Muslims to vote for him while calling his platform on civil rights inadequate.

The American Muslim Taskforce had been leaning against backing a candidate, but some members felt not making an endorsement could inadvertently help President Bush.

In 2000, a committee comprised mainly of the same U.S. Muslim groups endorsed Republican George W. Bush over Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites), because Bush had indicated he would address their concerns about the use of secret evidence in deportation hearings.

But the task force said in its statement Thursday that the Bush administration has "been insensitive to the civil liberties and human rights" of Muslims since the Sept. 11 attacks.

3. These are Arab Americans.
They voted for Bush in large numbers in 2000. So how can a Kerry endorsement help Bush? The racists are going to support Bush anyway, not Kerry.

5. i disagree
calico is exaclty right. People who vote based on their hatred of Arabs, Blacks, Jews, Gays etc will already be voting for W and other such candidates. Arabs have in the past voted republican based on the same things the Christians on the right vote on. Such as gay issues, abortion etc. This endorsement will help curb that trend.

arab or muslim = evil doers....only a matter of time before hannity and friends spin this as terrorists endorsing kerry.....

....that said, for those without a cranial-rectal inversion, such inclusion and support across cultural and religious lines is a great thing to see.....the GOPhers just keep getting whiter and whiter.....

7. Okay! We Got the Muslims on Board, the Catholics on Board,
the Anglicans and Unitarians, the non-southern liberal Baptists, the Jews in large part, while Bush has his Evangelical nutcases and perhaps some of the Amish...

8. Atheists Reporting For Duty!
Well, at least one.

Along with my Methodist aunt, and my Mom who works at a Baptist pre-school.

We haven't heard yet from the branch of the family that attends the Fire-Baptized Pentecostal Holiness Church. Nor do we want to.

9. Understandable. If he is going to work for Israel as he has pledged,
they have a lot to worry about. Perhaps they can make him see the light.
