Smith Political Dinner Gets Bush, Carey
Gore and Bush attended this "do" in 2000. I saw a clip earlier; this is the venue where the tuxedo-ed Bush said "They call you the elite; I call you my base".

NEW YORK - Because President Bush (news - web sites) and Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) were deemed too divisive for the annual Alfred E. Smith political dinner, the crowd heard from former President Bush and former New York Gov. Hugh Carey instead.

But without the presidential candidates, George H.W. Bush had to come up with new material.

"Here goes my Heinz ketchup joke," he said at Thursday night's 59th annual charity dinner, which serves as a sort of who's who of politics. "There goes my flip-flop joke."
.....
"The criticisms of the president have gotten Barbara pretty steamed," former President Bush noted. "If Barbara gets her hands on Sen. Kerry he's going to need another Purple Heart."

2. What is this? The Friars Club Annual Salute to Flatulence?
Got Gravitas?

The entire Republican Party has become obsessed with the most sophomoric stand-up comedy gags imaginable. There's no stoping them -- like a frustrated drunk at The Improv or an off-season Catskill tummler wasting some time at Dangerfield's, these comic geniuses are just a laff riot.

It's understandable that humor would be used to break the tension of a grave undertaking such as the Smith dinner, but there's a time and a place. Scenes like this make me wonder when some Republican operative is going to pass out the exploding cigars.

You know, Poppy Bush has given our country so much.

Isn't it time he stopped?

6. I think it's a fair joke...
after all, a landmine blowing off your leg, or taking shrapnel, or being paralyzed by a sniper's bullet is comparable to what a dessicated old woman could do to you. <sarcasm off>

5. Al Smith Dinner has become a joke
This used to be the big nonpartisan Catholic black tie dinner in NYC politics. It was a roast for charity. Now, for the most part, only conservatives go, as it has become politicized over abortion - pro-choice pols aren't usually invited.

Pathetic - like the rest of the Church has become.

9. Why Are These Two Old...
ladies paraded out constantly. Dear Mrs & Mrs Bush. America does not like you. You were crushed by WJC in 1992. Why do you think we give a rats ass about you now?

Oh and BTW... I thought you Thugs wanted former Presidents and Vice Presidents to keep their mouths shut.

10. She oughta go to a lobster bake and
fall in the hole, get covered up with seaweed and steam in her own juice. The problem here is their ignorant and stupid son and not the American people. Once again, blame someone else and if possible get even anyway you can. You raised a less than intelligent, strutting, blusterbumb boy with a fake Texas accent to lie. He lied, Mom, and he is responsible for those many many lies that have left thousands dead because lying is a way of life with you and your filthy, brain damaged spawn. There is nothing good about your war criminal, treasonous son and nothing I would like better than to see your self proclaimed "dynasty" all fall off the political landscape forever.

Your frustration is due to the fact that this time you cannot bail your poor little wimply cowardly boy out as you always have in the past. Your self decsribed , so called, beautiful mind cannot get past that, but it is the truth. We , the people, will NOT stand for it and will NOT stand for another of your fascist like spawn invading the political arena to wreak havoc on the people of America. We will destroy the evil Bush dynasty and do all we can to prevent another Bush from coming near our government ever again.

You people are pure unadulterated evil liars who will do anything for money--even if means killing 1003 of your own people by sending them off on a war on lies.
