<snip>

Around sundown Thursday, militants fired small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars at U.S. forces, who hit back with ground fire and airstrikes.

Hospital officials in Fallujah reported that eight people were killed and two wounded in the fighting. The U.S. command said it had no information on "anti-Iraq (news - web sites) forces" killed.

On Friday, the military said that "combat operations" have not begun and American forces have not entered the city. Coalition forces are still conducting "security operations," the military said.

An airstrike Thursday at 10 p.m. hit one suspected militant site where "20 armed invidividuals were seen moving crates and equipment from house to house," the U.S. military said.

7. No I had not seen it. Excellent and sobering....
last paragraph.... :(

<I have spent time with both resistance fighters and the US army, and there is no question the marines can take the city. But the US has a developed a habit of winning engagements while losing the war - while breaking the laws of war in the process. This is what Britain's redeployment will help to unleash. >

8. Movement of BlackWatch is another bloody mistake by Blair,
and another example for him to show his contempt for the Labour party.
It is obvious this is a political decision and is as subtle as a sledgehammer,a week before your Election.
So,how long will it be before * mentions the brave allies?

15.  To turn Fallujah into Grozny
"I was told by Iraqi fighters that the marines nearly took the
city after capturing a lot of rebel ammunition."

And I read that the Resistance was piss'd 'cause
they had outflanked the marines and were about
to take them out.

We ain't seen nothin' yet.

options left are all unsavory. 1) Washington may put at
least 300,000 troops on the ground, instead of the
current 138,000, and try to smash the resistance for good.
This means an indefinite occupation - and no "democracy" at
the end of the tunnel. 2) Washington may leave the whole
mess as it is, with a constant stream of US casualties and
the resistance getting stronger by the minute. 3) The US may
pull out of Iraq entirely.

4. "anti-Iraq (read anti-Halliburton) forces" killed
What is an anti-Iraq force?

How would the Bush Criminals regard anti-war protesters?

Are they anti-Amerikan?

Would the Bush Criminals send the police out to shoot and kill a few anti-war protesters?

10. I am so sorry Mary T.....
my nephew just graduated boot camp in the Marine Corps. he thinks they are going to send him to engineering school! He is only eighteen and it is such a waste.
Is it too late to talk your son out of going? I think he still has a chance to get out of his commitment before boot camp.

12. I Tried Talking...It Is A Daddy Driven Issue I'm Afraid
His dad my ex is a former F-14 pilot and has real problems with Benjamin. Ben reminds him too much of me and he has never let the kid forget it. I believe Ben is trying to tell his dad to fuck off and at the same time trying to prove he isn't just my darling baby boy but a man in his own right. It is complicated and Ben is not backing down.

I am just so fucking weirded out and I'm abroad so I feel isolated.

13. That's how I got in the service and I was Gung Ho---
Until I saw a few bloated bodies crawling with maggots-- then I realized I'd fucked up.

Nothing smells like a rotting corpse in the 95 degree heat of the tropics after the body has been out there for a couple of weeks.

And some of these mother fuckers who advocate War here have no idea.

As thousands more troops go to Iraq and come back--- the Draft dodging NeoCons who sent them there--- will feel their heat.

11. Hope he stays safe
If he keeps his head down and uses a little common sense, he will be alright.

Many young men have something to prove by enlisting.

Hopefully he will grow up and be productive when he gets out. Love him unconditionally for his choice. I support all who enlisted for whatever reason. I will not support the leaders who for venal reasons put these young women and men in danger.

20. Notice how Iraqis die in convoy attacks but USans only injured
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 08:04 AM by jmcgowanjm
From Mafkarat al Islam 102204

Seven US troops killed in Friday evening ambush.

Iraqi Resistance forces on Friday attacked a US patrol on
the road to Saddam International Airport in the al-
Jihad neighborhood at about 5:40pm. The Resistance
fired rocket-propelled grenades at the US patrol, destroying
one Humvee and one Bradley armored vehicle. Seven
American soldiers died in the ambush.

Or maybe the pic was from this attack:

Three US troops were wounded, one of them seriously when
an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded under a US
Bradley armored vehicle in the al-Jihad neighborhood
of Baghdad at about 11am Friday. The blast heavily
damaged the vehicle and wounded the three men.
Local witnesses described the wounds of one of the men
as serious, judging from the way the other US troops
treated him.
