More Than 800 Former Soldiers Ordered to Duty Have Failed to Report
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBCUQGTM0E.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - More than 800 former soldiers have failed to comply with Army orders to get back in uniform and report for duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, the Army said Friday. That is more than one-third of the total who were told to report to a mobilization station by Oct. 17.

Three weeks ago the number stood at 622 amid talk that any who refused to report for duty could be declared Absent Without Leave. Refusing to report for duty normally would lead to AWOL charges, but the Army is going out of its way to resolve these cases as quietly as possible.

If our Banana Republican El Presidente did his only flying while snorting cocaine, why can't the troops enmulate such a WONDERFUL MAN OF GOD???????

Then they can head over to the whorehouse, and pay with DADDY'S MONEY!

4. From the Elder Statesman......
Received this in an E-Mail and read elsewhere, I know everyone has seen and\or heard it.
But, as a reminder......

"In his memoirs, "A World Transformed," written five years ago,
George Bush Sr., wrote the following to explain why he didn't go
after Saddam Hussein at the end of the Gulf War.

"Trying to eliminate Saddam...would have incurred incalculable human
and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible.... We
would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq....
There was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of
our principles. Furthermore, we had been consciously trying to set a
pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in
and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations'
mandate, would have destroye d the pr ecedent of international response
to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion
route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power
in a bitterly hostile land."

If only his son could read...

8. These guys are gonna need lawyers....
I am hoping that lawyers with military experience will step up to the plate and help these guys. They might be able to stall the process with a class action.

They are going to go after retirees next, if they are not stopped. If you have medical skills, mortuary experience, or Farsi, Pashtun or Arabic language skills, your neck is on the block.

This has to stop.

14. I'll bet he is a DOCTOR
...and that notice was probably a recall to active duty from RETIREMENT.

He probably has skill in rehabilitative surgery, plastic surgery, hand or foot surgery, or he is a psychiatrist. We have 8,000 (more, actually, they will come out of the woodwork eventually) young men and women who are really going to strain the resources of the VA in the years ahead. It will be one of the largest "unseen" personnel costs of this stupid fucking war.

Of course, this is the FAITH BASED administration. He might have been a chaplain!

18. Been talking to my neighbor....
down the road from me whos recently been called up.
They're telling him he wont be going to Iraq but will be deployed to
"an un-named" middle eastern country to act as support for the troops in Iraq.

He says dont blow smoke up my ass and tell me I'm on fire. He knows he's gonna end up there.

So my wife and I have been real neighborly lately and have been bringing pies over and neighborly shit like that. While we're over there I try and drop hints about ditching out of the stupid Fucker Bush.
I really want to tell him not to go and let him know that my wife and I will go the distance and do whatever we can to help him hide-out or whatever you do in these things.
Its really hard to talk with him about it cause I dont want to piss him off. He's a good neighbor and I'd hate to alienate him.
He seems to be leaning in the direction of telling Bush to go fuck himself but its hard to read.

Any suggestion on how I might bring the subject up???

26. you miss the point....at
I'm not talking about a vote here.
John Kerry is not going to do anything for a guy thats scheduled to leave in the spring.

I'm talking more about suggesting he go AWOL and depend on neighbors to help him hide out.
How do you bring something like that up?
What are the legal ramifications for helping him, etc...

28. In what sense did you read my words to imply to you
"I'm talking more about suggesting he go AWOL and depend on neighbors to help him hide out."

I suggested nothing of the kind.

My point simply is that I would not be voting FOR bush if
I was in that predicament. Course I wouldn't be voting
for bush under any circumstance :)

21. Wonder how Army will go about "quietly" resolving these cases
Will they demand the former soldiers, now AWOL, pay restitution for any back pay, say, including costs (in today's dollars) for any VA hospital stays or medical treatment given when they were in good standing?

Any thoughts on this?

America started. But I know this one is hard. Some people just have to figure it out on their own, no matter what we try to do. I see these people every day.

27. Great News: American Refuse-niks!
These GIs don't even compare to Bush's AWOL!

At least they went to the war.

Asking these men and women to die for OIL is shameful.

Its a wonder they haven't taken up arms!

The peace/ anti-war movement is ready to embrace these people.

Bring the Troops Home NOW!
