Bush assigning a new government official to address vanishing factory jobs
By Associated Press, 9/1/2003

RICHFIELD, Ohio -- President Bush announced Monday he is creating a high-level government post to nurture the manufacturing sector, which is bleeding jobs in states crucial to his re-election.

On a rain-soaked Labor Day trip to a factory training center, Bush said he had directed Commerce Secretary Don Evans to establish an assistant position to focus "on the needs of manufacturers." Keeping factory jobs is critical to a broader economic recovery, the president said, his outdoor venue ringed by cranes, backhoes and bulldozers.

Bush said the nation has lost "thousands of jobs in manufacturing." In fact, the losses have soared into the millions: Of the 2.7 million jobs the US economy has lost since the recession began in early 2001, 2.4 million were in manufacturing. The downturn has eliminated more than one in 10 of the nation's factory jobs.

Yawn...more lip service.

20. Wrong: He has a plan....
Tax cuts for the top brass at all companies which manufacture something somewhere. It'll surely trickle down to all the workers, even the few left in the U.S.

3. Look at his words...
he's going to help the manufacturers. Nothing about helping the workers. I suppose this new government beaurocrat will be helping manufacturers outsource overseas, like the GOP are doing with their fundraising campaign.....

11. Yeah, one of his textile manufacturing CEO...
...contributors no doubt.

This will get Bush nothing. No manufacturing sector worker in their right mind is going to believe they would be better off with Bush. Bush has shown his true cheap labor, job exporter colors. We know who Bush is for, and it certainly isn't American workers.

14. W is acting just like he did before 9-11
He's focusing like a laser on a domestic issue and ignoring all the real problems that we are facing. Guess he knows that there's another LIHOP/MIHOP in the works and he trying to pretend that he doesn't have a clue.

And if he really doesn't have a clue, would somebody mind letting W know WWIII is about to break out. I know he's busy clearing brush and fund raising, but this is sort of important.

15. No more small government? Bush just keeps expanding the government!
Bush's solution to every problem is adding more government.

Imagine if a Democrat did what Bush is doing and expanded the government wildly. The right wingers would be going crazy.

16. "Message: 'I care!'"
Oops, that was Daddy Bush. Still, same principle. "I will pose in front of working people and tower cranes and people will think I give a shit! Meanwhile, more secret deals and goodies for Halliburton and Carlyle!" Thus Bush/Rove.

18. How much more will we take from this ass?
Those 2.7 million jobs have been "disappearing" for 2 fucking years, and he's said NOTHING, he's done NOTHING, and this is just one more PHONY BACKDROP for him to stand in front of while he greases the palms of his CEO buddies and they in turn BUY A SEAT IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Empty suits making empty promises in order to secure their seats in the power structure. :puke:

Don Evans is a former oil and gas industry executive.

http://www.commerce.gov/bios/evans_bio.html

In 1975, Secretary Evans moved to Midland, Texas, from Houston and was a "roughneck" on an oil rig for Tom Brown, Inc, a large independent energy company. Ten years later, he took the helm of the company as CEO and continued leading it until he was tapped by the President to lead the Commerce Department.

On Edit: late with this info, already posted above :)
