Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Reacts to Bush-Cheney Political Ad
Statement of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund President Rodger Schlickeisen

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Bush-Cheney campaign released a political ad, "Wolves" in which the endangered species' image is used to portray fear. Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund President Rodger Schlickeisen offered the following statement:
"The Bush-Cheney campaign's most recent bizarre political commercial, 'Wolves,' misuses the imagery of wolves to try to instill fear in the voting public.

How ironic for George Bush, who has been the most anti-wildlife president ever, to turn to the very symbol of endangered wildlife in America -- the wolf -- for assistance in perpetuating his administration. Wolf recovery in parts of America, no thanks to this administration, represents one of the great success stories of wildlife conservation in this country. This is the last day of Wolf Awareness Week, and a chief purpose is to help educate the public that the myths about wolves being threats to humans, are just that, myths. But the Bush campaign is using that fictitious stereotype in a manner that instills false fear.
...
Finally, it is worth pointing out that a wolf is a fierce defender of its homeland and it has learned that when it attacks, it needs to work with others to maximize its chance of success."

3. Once out of office and unprotected the Chimpanzee will be live bait
For a pack of wolves who will deal with him appropriately.

I can't wait to confront this "BAG OF FART" on the lecture tour.

4. If they wanted to scare us
shouldn't they have used rottweilers and pit bulls rather than a wild animal that is afraid of humans?

9. Wolves are marvelous creatures
They have strong family units. They are being reintroduced to the Northern Wisconsin wilderness. This done with the help of native tribes in the area.

The native peoples of Wisconsin have a great respect for the wolf. The largest river in central eastern Wisconsin is the Wolf River ( named by the Menominee Nation eons ago). It is a wild beautiful untamed area.

The Chimp, born in Connecticut with a silver spoon in his mouth, or any of the other Bush Criminals would never understand the culture of the wolf or the peoples, the wolf inspires and guides.

11. I did not know about the re-introduction of the wolf
That is great. I see them every now and again when
I am fly-fishing. I have never felt threatened - quite the
opposite. There is something very comforting about seeing
them in person.

14. The wofl has been re-introduced to Yellowstone and to
areas in southeastern Arizona. Virtually its only barrier to successful propagation and re-establishment as a viable predator species is humans with guns.

Wolves are extremely devoted to family -- far more than most "family values" republicans.

Wolves virtually never attack without extreme provocation -- unlike most "pre-emptive strike" republicans.

Wolves hunt in highly coordinated and cooperative packs -- unlike the "don't forget Poland" coalition of the go-it-alone republicans.

Wolves are extremely curious and intelligent and can thrive even in the most inhospitable of environments -- unlike the intellectually lazy and materially pampered republicans.

The close cousin of the wolf, the coyote, is even more adaptable than its larger relative. They thrive virtually everywhere in North America, and especially in Sun City, Arizona, where the well-maintained golf courses provide plenty of water and rabbits -- and where careless homeowners often forget to keep an eye on their small dogs. I've seen coyotes trotting quite unconcernedly along the cart paths in Sun City, then they literally stop at the street, look for traffic, and cross. They've been known to chase golf balls and take off with them, to the extreme frustration of the golfers!

The wolf is a popular emblem of the environmental movement, and I'm not surprised that this ad is backfiring bigtime on the booshies. May THEY soon be extinct.

13. Here is Why.

Because that would hit too close to home! Pit bulls and rottweilers are probably admired by the bush base as brave and courageous attack dogs like Bush and Cheney, see? To the Rethugs, viciousness is a good trait. *I know. I know. There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. I am not stereotyping breeds. I am just using a metaphor here*

6. I have donated to DOW for years...
when I saw the commercial I had the same reaction. How bizzare to use an animal so beautiful and shy of humans as a "terrorist" image. Once again chimpy*s total disconnect with reality becomes apparent. :eyes:

16. I saw the ad today
It is so like this bunch to demonize a beautiful creature like this to try to scare us. If only they had the family values wolves do. They care for their own, they are good parents and are very intelligent. You can tell that by the way they avoid humans if possible. I also give to defenders of wildlife and many other animal and also children's charities, but the wolf has a special place in my heart.

17. "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"

I reworked the "Wolves" Bush Commercial because I couldn't stand this commercial being touted as THE big Bush Ad buy of the Century - so I created a Quicktime version that is more suitable - called "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" --

It's a pretty small file so it should load fine -- I think THIS ONE will take some of the swelling out of Chimpy's head..

I think it helps to bring up the fact that Bush sat on his ASS during 911 while the REAL WOLVES brought the world down.

Pass it around if you will,

20. When I say this ad I expected to hear chainsaws
All the forest imagery and the talk about predators in the forest made me immediately think about logging companies that prey on our natural resources by using them up as fast as they can.

My mental imagery when they cut to the wolves and they all start to stand up was that of the sounds of chainsaws buzzing to life and all the wolves running away as their forests were cut down.
