Tied in Florida: JK 46 GWB 46 in SP Times/Herald Florida Poll
The Presidential Campaign
Down the stretch, a dead heat
Just more than a week until Election Day, Florida voters are evenly divided over Bush, Kerry.
By ADAM C. SMITH, Times Political Editor
Published October 24, 2004

It looks like 2000 all over again.

President Bush and challenger John Kerry head into the final stretch of the race in another Florida deadlock, with voters starkly split over the Iraq war and the president's performance, a new St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald poll shows.

Kerry in recent weeks gained among crucial independent, Hispanic and senior voters. But the poll suggests Bush has peeled away some traditional Democratic support among women and African-Americans.

As a result of those trends, the contest for the largest battleground state could not be any closer nine days before the election.

Forty-six percent of likely voters back Bush, 46 percent Kerry. Seven percent are undecided and 1 percent back Ralph Nader.

"Florida is a divided state, every bit as divided as it was four years ago," said pollster Rob Schroth, who doubts many of the undecided Floridians will vote. "The race will turn on who gets their voters to the polls."

1. Bush hits magic 46 again. His head must be bumpy by now.
I wonder what their likely voter model is?

I'm seriously thinking that Gallup's, for one, is entirely backwards in this election.

p.s. - Thank you FLORIDA DEMS! You are heroes!

2. Bush* cannot win without Florida
so the pundits have been saying this week. Jeb will have to take it for him (again).

4. These polls are becoming a daily farce...
Every day that anyone looks at these polls, you've got to ask yourself "What major event has taken place to make the polls shift since well.. Yesterday?" That's why these polls are so ridiculous, they are put on a virtual daily basis by some Nosehair Gazette or some similar rag, and when they are all different, we are supposed to do precisely, what?

These polls don't take into account the HUGE number of new voters that have signed up, the HUGE number of college students that have rediscovered activism and college, and the number of people in FL that after 2000, now know their votes DO matter. Kerry should carry FL because of the new registrants, and how they've been mostly Dem, the students discovering their voices, and the number of people who accidentally voted Nader who will NEVER let their vote get erased by the Supreme Court. FL is almost sewn up. I can't believe they still consider it a battle ground state. Shrub should just go campaign in South Dakota.

6. Let me take a stab at this
He has to keep it close enough to steal it? He needs it because he can't win without it?

5. I prefer non-fiction.
Again, I know FIVE people who are middle-aged and beyond who have never before voted that have now registered to vote - just to vote against Bush. There's no way Bush wins Florida.

7. I humbly disagree.
I remember 2000. When they analysts called FL for Gore based on post voting polls, the TV showed Bush in his room. He was totally confident of winning FL. In the background I saw brother Jeb on the phone. I knew then what I know now. Kerry can't win FL even if every person in the state voted for him. It's fixed. I'll bet they break the record for number of Democrat ballots that don't get counted. Kerry better win OH, PA, NM, and MN to get the 270. He'll never get FL.

12. If they try that this time
There will be rioting in FL like you have never seen before. If Bush wins it outright then fine, but I don't think he can even given some unseen cheating. No, if he is to win here the cheating will be right out in the open where it can be seen, just like 2000. This time however, the Dems will not trust the courts to fix it, or the candidate to fight back. This time, the candidate can depend on US to stop it.

Believe it my friend. There are thousands of people here in FL who are not just angry over 2000, they are SEETHING. I swear, some of these people almost seem to want Jeb to try it again; I think they've gone over in their heads a million times what they should have done 4 years ago if only they'd known and are dying to have a second chance.

13. I remember that too
Bush knew it was in the bag and didn't bat an eyelid when it was given for Gore . This time I am holding on to the hope that to be forewarned , is to be forearmed . I have no doubt that John Kerry will get more votes , all we have to do is count them .

14. I agree with you. I hope we're wrong. But I think when the gov is the
Prez's brother, and they own the Secretary of State (who runs the election process), and the majority of the elections officials in the state are Republican, and the majority of the U.S. S. Ct. were hand picked by that party...I think it's naive to think that that state is not "fixed" at this point.

46/46 and this from the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald. You can bet JK is up by at least 48/44.

16. And the beautiful thing is..
Kerry wins Florida, Kerry IS our next prez. No matter what happens in the Midwest!

Just tell those retirees to think about their Social Security, and take a gander at their 401k plans.

Bush is making inroads among blacks? BULLSHIT!

17. 46-46 really means Kerry 52, Bush 47.
Once the undecideds break, it's over.

Bush has to go into Election Day with a 3-4 point lead if he has any hopes of winning Florida.... um.... fairly.
