Bergen (NJ) Record endorses Kerry for President
Sunday, October 24, 2004

IF you hired someone to manage your affairs, but he spent all your savings and drove you deeply into debt, you would fire him. If he insulted some of your oldest friends and turned them against you, you would fire him. If he put your children in harm's way, risked their lives, and misled you about the reasons, you would fire him.

President George W. Bush has done all these things to the United States in his four years in office - and it's time to fire him.

John Kerry is the better choice for president. He promises a change in direction for the nation. He would still wage war on terrorism but engage in preemptive strikes only as a last resort. He would return respect for the United States abroad and focus more on the concerns of the middle class and the poor at home.

Mr. Bush has led the nation down paths that have left us less safe and less financially secure. Confronting a clear enemy that attacked us on Sept. 11, 2001, he then took the war on terror off course and onto a battleground that had nothing to do with Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida, and everything to do with his obsession with Saddam Hussein.

4. Woohoo! Bergen County, NJ...most beautiful place I ever lived in...
and less than an hours drive into NYC. Love that place (Oakland, NJ).

Yes, there are a few scattered places in Jersey that aren't toxic dumps.

6. More from the Kerry endorsement, commenting on Bush
No intelligence that contradicted his insistence on the presence of weapons of mass destruction deterred him, and there was never any decisive proof that the weapons existed. Instead, the case for invasion was hyped, inconclusive evidence was presented as "irrefutable," and the course that was successfully containing Hussein - sanctions - was rejected for a military path that included no serious planning for anything after the fall of the regime. Today, Iraq is in chaos, and there is no end in sight.

Despite the disastrous aftermath, the continued loss of American and Iraqi lives and the shameful prison abuse scandal, Mr. Bush insists today that he has nothing to answer for and would do it all exactly the same way. His absolute certainty and his refusal to acknowledge any mistakes are frightening.

Meanwhile, the war on al-Qaida and the reconstruction of Afghanistan, the growing nuclear threats in North Korea and Iran, the ominous anti-democratic trends in Russia and the death of the Middle East peace process have all taken a back seat to the black hole in Iraq.
Mr. Bush refuses to see that U.S. leadership and standing in the world have been severely compromised by his unilateralist approach.
At home, he has relentlessly pursued massive tax cuts that have largely benefited the wealthiest Americans. He has spent billions on the war in Iraq. A healthy surplus has been erased, and an unprecedented and dangerous federal deficit continues to mushroom. Now more than $400 billion, the annual deficit could reach $700 billion within a decade unless the tax cuts for the richest Americans are reversed. Meanwhile, the ranks of the poor and those without health insurance have grown.

Mr. Bush heads an arrogant, secretive administration that has used his "uniter-not-a-divider" persona to cover for a conservative ideological agenda, far to the right of the American mainstream.
Wasn't it only last week Bush did some campaigning in New Jersey?

Good luck to New Jersey Democrats. This is a GREAT endorsement.
