Columbus Dispatch endorses Bush
One of the most anticipated media endorsements in the crucial battleground state of Ohio has finally come. With just 9 days until the general election, the Columbus Dispatch has endorsed Bush for president:

The endorsement is less than kind to the president - actually spending more time criticizing that praising his record and qualifications.

1. And just below that announcement is this
Ohio adds 5,500 jobs following big losses
Bush, Kerry campaigns say numbers back them
Saturday, October 23, 2004
Mark Niquette and Catherine Candisky
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio’s economy added 5,500 jobs last month but still has the secondworst job losses in the nation during the past year, according to the final state jobs report before the election.

With the economy — and Ohio — poised to play a key role in the presidential election, Republicans pointed to the new jobs and a net increase since December as a sign the economy is improving.

Democrats said that, at best, job numbers are fluctuating and that recent gains haven’t made up the losses under President Bush.

"They’re both right," said Bill La-Fayette, vice president of economic analysis for the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

6. Here here!
"The Dispatch also strongly opposed the invasion of Iraq, contending the case had not been made that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction or posed an imminent threat to this nation."

Wow! I must have missed that one. Maybe because I never read the Dogpatch.

3. These endorsements for Bush don't make sense.
Are people really this gullible that they'll buy into all this crap?

So, according to the Columbus Dispatch, even though Bush has fucked up everything he has touched, we're supposed to trust him to make us safe? What utter bullshit.

Columbus Dispatch, we lost the fight for Iraq when Abu Ghraib torture and abuse pictures were circulated throughout the world. Iraqis will NEVER accept a Bush-imposed solution, unless we kill most of the country. We need a fresh start, not some conviction to keep a despised moron calling the shots.

7. I be shocked if they didn't
The Dispatch leans right. No one is going to be influenced by this anyway.

Columbus will go for Kerry.

9. Most Ohio papers backed Bush in 2000
The one to watch is the Plain Dealer where there is supposedly a big fight going on between the editorial staff and the paper's owner (guess who likes Bush?).

Cincinnati Enquirer --10/29/00
Cincinnati Post --10/30/00 EWS
Cleveland Plain Dealer --10/22/00 *
Columbus Dispatch --10/22/00
Canton Repository --10/29/00 *
Marietta Times --11/4/00

Here are the ones that backed Gore:
