Kerry campaign announces final ad strategy.........../
this just posted as a thread on the Kerry blog:

Hope, Not Fear--A Fresh Start for America

Washington, DC - While the president spends the final days of the 2004 campaign distracting voters from his failed record with a message of fear, the Kerry-Edwards campaign Sunday announced the three television ads which will encompass the majority of its ad buy thru the election. The ads signal the Kerry campaign will focus the final days of the election on the hope offered by John Kerry’s plan for America’s future.

2. I'll do that for him :)
I think it helps to bring up the fact that Bush sat on his ASS during 911 while the REAL WOLVES brought the world down.

Pass it around if you will..

6. It'll be interesting
Frankly, I think the positive ads in the final push may once again make Kerry look more presidential. Makes him look more like a president and Bush like a negative, screechy wannabe. So much negativity this season, which generally (and sadly) works, but I do wonder if people are reaching the burnout level and just looking for something uplifting to seal that deal. I sure hope that's the case. I really like that one ad that doesn't even mention Bush. It's like Bush is so inconsequential that Kerry doesn't even have to mention him anymore.

7. No, I agree with this philosophy
Bush's negative have been high enough for long enough that it's clear most people don't want to rehire him. However they still don't feel totally comfortable with the alternative. Putting Kerry in a positive light, so that the (hopefully) last image voters have of him is upbeat increases the likelihood they get tipped over the edge on election day.

Remember the 1980 race: Carter was unpopular, but Reagan was still an uncertain quantity. He closed the deal by giving people an image of himself as sunny-sided and optimistic.

Ooh, the irony. As desperately as Bush has tried to invoke the spirit of Reagan only to have Kerry beat him with a page out of Ronnie's playbook.

Now that's poetic justice.

10. Ditto...
The only people who can't be swayed by these positive Kerry ads are the idiots who wouldn't sway from * for anything anyway.

I often hear many many people very upset with * but not quite ready to commit to Kerry. While * is running these doomsday, scary, frightening ads of Kerry (AND THE LIBERALS IN CONGRESS!!!), these positive and hopeful ads will seal the deal IMHO.

One week till Victory!!!!!

14. Disagree
I think there's a fair amount of election fatigue setting in. I think striking a positive tone at this point in the campaign is probably a good idea.

11. Relying on the 527s to cover on attack ads could be a mistake
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 10:06 PM by 0rganism
Attack ads are the singlemost effective means of swaying opinion in a campaign. Now that people are actually paying some attention to the election coverage, the K/E campaign is switching to positive ads? Questionable. That leaves any attack ad buys to the 527s, who can't coordinate with DNC strategists.

Oh well. I'm going to trust that k/E knows what it's doing. What else can we do, at this point?

15. He doesn't know it will work better, he's hoping. imo
I wonder how many headlines his positive vision will get versus the reliable coverage AWOL gets whenever he attacks.

18. Kerry will not totally disarm....
If he is attacked, he will respond. However, he will attempt to keep his campaign positive but it is unlikely the Bush campaign will do the same. But, Kerry will be quick to point that out to the voters.
