>>Augusto Pinochet is mentally fit to face trial, according to one of the three psychiatrists who examined him late last month .
>>The tests were ordered by investigative judge Juan Guzmán (ST, Oct. 4), who presides over the investigation into Operation Condor and is seeking to indict Pinochet for his part in the disappearance of 19 opponents of his military government. Operation Condor was an intelligence-sharing network used by the military dictatorships of the Southern Cone to locate and kill dissidents in the 1970s and 1980s.
>>Pinochet’s legal team once again placed their client’s mental health at the center of his defense after the Supreme Court stripped him of his immunity from prosecution as a former head-of-state (ST, Aug. 27).
>>The judicial assault on the former dictator opened up on yet another front on Sunday, when the chief French public prosecutor charged him in connection with the disappearance of four French citizens following the 1973 coup that brought Pinochet to power.<<
*,Rummy,Blair,Hoon et al have all of this to look forward to in their retirement,
as Iraq and other countries seek their appearance in court for war crimes trials.
