The head of the energy committee in Iran's parliament is urging the construction of nine nuclear power stations to make up for Iran's small oil reserves.
The Iranian News Agency IRNA quoted Kamal Danshiar as saying since oil and gas reserves are being depleted, "we might not be able in the coming years to export big quantities of oil due to growing domestic demand."
He stressed Iran "must produce as many as 10 megawatts of electricity in coming years, and the government should announce a new tender for building nine new nuclear stations."
Danshiar noted 80 percent of the nuclear center at Bushahr has been completely built and "we hope it will be fully operational this year." He said Iran believes "in the policy of stamping out tensions" but "will not yield to U.S. pressure."
