low flying helicopter over takoma park/silver spring md

im witnessing this. a very low military type helicopter is flying over my house. spot light is roaming the ground. nothing on the local cable news.

edit: there were three. two were actually police. thry are now gone.

its dark in colour and has a large open bay. police copter are frequent in dc. ive never seen one like this. also, the engine sounds different.

And from what I could tell it had the silouette of an Apache.

Never seen one in action before, but it had a really high pitched rotor noise if anyone's been around them and could help with the ID.

We get them all the time here in Alexandria. Often, it has to do with a stolen car. Let's say the perps ('scuse my talking like a Republican) steal a car. They're pursued, and they wreck the car. Everyone bails, and the four occupants head in four different directions. Your Montgomery County police or the Maryland state troopers will get a helicopter in the air with a thermal imager and spotlight. They'll circle and circle looking for the perps.

OTOH, maybe * went out for Chinese.

If you don't have a police scanner, you're missing all the action.

It was bigger and the tail had a solid fin with a circular hole for the stabilizing rotor. It definitly had the wing like structures on it.

It was hard to make out too much detail cause the chopper was all black and against a black sky you can't get much, but whatever it was I know it wasn't standard police.

20. could be. can't give a definite cause lack of detail but the tail fits

along with it being black. But I can't see any of the little 'winglets' from that angle, does that have them? Also the sound was like no helicopter I've heard before.

Whatever it was it brought the entire neighborhood out in the streets to see what was going on.

I doubt I will be able to positively identify what it was for sure just because details were hard to get, but this definitely could have been it.
