U.S. troops build up around Iraqi rebel city (Fallujah)

U.S. troops reinforced positions around Falluja after an overnight air strike on Tuesday and sealed main roads out of the rebel-held city. Witnesses said U.S. tanks and armoured vehicles cut off the main highway to Jordan that runs just north of Falluja, as warplanes criss-crossed the skies. Troops took up positions in empty buildings on the Sunni Muslim city's southern perimeter.

A civilian driver was shot dead near a U.S. checkpoint on the highway, witnesses said. The military said it was checking the report.

Only one road leading northwest out of the city, which lies 50 km (32 miles) west of Baghdad, remained open to civilian traffic, the witnesses said.

In the overnight raid, the U.S. military said it had carried out a "precision strike" on a safe house used by followers of al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Falluja, killing one of his associates. It did not name him or give his nationality.

2. Well, I have to point out that the faux Iraqi government and the US have
been warned that this will cause the whole place to go up in flames.

Jihad anyone?

This is truly stupid. You just can't kill everyone over there, and that's what it will take if we don't change our methods of dealing with the Iraqi people.

15. They Can't Find Him, Because They Don't Know Where He Is.
"Aide killed, safe house destroyed, kebab restaurant leveled", and let's not forget the so-called "precision" bombing.

The media is getting all this from some military PR clown, who has been ordered to report nothing bad has happened, you know like the deaths of children from "precision" bomb attacks, that's not a bad thing.

From what I understand there are no "inbed" American journalists in Falluja, so how can they report on what's going on in a city that most if not all are no closer then I am to you.

This "aide" hasn't been named yet, for all we know the man was a short order cook preparing a meal.

5. This game...
... should be mandatory for each of the Bush morons:

September 12th

Even the dumbest person will eventually come to grasp that bombing terrorists is a No- Win scenario.

6. bush* may be being a bit sneaky here
Seeing how the perception in the minds of most of the u.s. population is that an attack by the u.s. on Fallujah will be sucessful, then to a large extent all bush* has to do is to look convincingly like he is going to deal with Fallujah, for the problem to seem to have been 'dealt with'.

As Nimzovitch (chess player) would say "the threat is greater than the execution" because actually invading Fallujah might turn a bit bloody and make bush* look bad.

Basically there may be more votes in 'threatening convincingly' to invade Fallujah, then in actually doing so, which makes blair's little thing with the 600 or so Black Watch troops all the more annoying.

7. Resistance fighter knocks out US tank, killing six US troops
Monday IRR 102504

The incident began when US forces began to concentrate
near the al-Jawlan neighborhood in the northwestern part
of al-Fallujah. Seeing this, a Resistance fighter picked up
his SPG9 rocket launcher and set off to attack the
Americans. When he saw the Abrams tank advancing, he fired
a rocket and scored a direct hit on the vehicle, setting off a
series of secondary explosions from within the tank
as munitions blew up inside, killing the six-man tank
crew.

The US aggressors responded to the Resistance
attack, however, firing their heavy machineguns from
their Humvees at the Resistance fighter, shredding his
body.

The information flow has been almost as detailed/consistent.

I don't like to link because of hackers. But
these reports always show up on jihadunspun or
here, an Italian site, later.

Resistance brings out new, 7-meter long rocket in latest bombardments of Saddam International Airport.

For the first time since the US invasion, Iraqi Resistance
forces used the 7-8meter long al-‘Aadid (“Advocate”) rocket in
a bombardment of Saddam International Airport, one of the
chief US bases in the country. The al-‘Aadid is the longest
rocket so far fired by the Iraqi Resistance since the start of
their liberation war. Previously the largest rocket employed by
the Resistance was the ar-Ra‘d (“Thunder”) which was
shorter.

The Resistance hit Saddam International airport with
the al-‘Aadid on Sunday, but no information on casualties
or damage is available. It did appear, however, that the
rocket scored a direct hit on the airport runway, inhibiting use
of the airport by the occupation forces as a means
for re-supplying the occupation, much of which is done via
C130 transport planes.

We're about to find out just how accurate these guys are
because according to these guys the US is losing
at least 3 troops/hour, not to mention curtailing logistics
flow and equipment losses.

14. You've done all you could to educate your son
Intelligence goes a long way in this world.

And if Moron steals another election-
which is the only way he gets to stay
at the WH, we're all going to war.

Everything I have personally seen on this subject indicates that
if Bush gets reelected, the fun will really begin and there
is absolutely nothing that the useless Ridge people can do
to stop it. The attacks on the United States are considered
by everyone involved to be twofold: Militant BW of various kinds to include small atomic weapons
or smallpox now being considered by them]  and
Economic which consists of interdicting oil shipments to
the United States by various means. There is also, as I
have indicated earlier, a strong global movement to dish
the dollar as a universal medium of exchange and replace it
with the euro. This has met with some resistance with
many banking systems but it is being pointed out that a
large percentage of their own dollar holdings are in
worthless counterfeits (courtesy of the very clever Iranians)
so that if and when this becomes public knowledge already well-known in international banking circles]
confidence in the dollar will immediately collapse and
even America will have to pay for whatever small amounts of oil
it can get in euros!

If the public was aware of the sometimes-glacial but very
deadly progress of this economic war, they would worry like
hell and stop listening to the blatantly phony “terrorist alerts”
that have been waved in front of them to deliberately panic
them into continued support of what is, in essence, a badly
failed and very deadly Bush
policy.

16. I doubt that report has been cleared by US military censors

It sounds like the kind of event that would be immediately cordoned off and declared off-limits to media, so any report on it could only be the result of unauthorized entry into a closed military zone, and any reports of casualties would not have been approved for release by the Pentagon.

10. From the political side....
I saw the post yesterday that said peace talks/negotiations had been stalemated. I suspected then, as I do now, that is prelude to an all-out attack.

I had suspected that the attack was planned to begin last week so the carnage would be over and Bush* could claim a victory just before the voting began. However, I didn't take into account the "shock and awe" aspect mentioned in a post above. Since I've heard the "don't change horses in mid-stream" theme a couple of times in the last few days, I suspect an all-out assault would be seen as driving the message home.

In short, I wouldn't put anything past these guys.....

11. Report: Iraq Government Breaks Off Falluja Talks
DUBAI (Reuters) - The chief negotiator in the rebel-held Iraqi town of Falluja said on Monday the government had canceled talks to avert a military assault on the town.

"I was told that the negotiations have been canceled," Sheikh Khaled al-Jumaili told Arab satellite television Al Jazeera. "I was told that by Defense Minister Hazim al-Shalaan."

~snip~

The interim government said on Saturday it had resumed talks to pacify Falluja, which has faced heavy U.S. bombardment in what the U.S. military says is a bid to crush insurgents and kill or capture al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his followers.

So once again, no one knows what the hell is going on. I suspect more "shock" and "awe" is right around the corner. :(
