BP's Profit Surges 53 Percent in 3Q

High oil and gas prices and bigger profit margins in refining helped BP PLC drive up third-quarter earnings by 53 percent, the company said Tuesday.

BP reported a profit of US$3.46 billion (euro2.7 billion) for the three months ending Sept. 30, up from US$2.26 billion in the same period a year ago.

BP reported pro forma net profit, which the company said excludes losses or gains from the sale of assets or termination of operations, of US$3.94 billion (euro3.08 billion), up 43 percent from US$2.76 billion a year ago. That was lower than analysts expected.

BP said the loss of production in the United States following Hurricane Ivan, low inventories and limited spare capacity had underpinned the rising price of crude.

In a sluggish economy, Big Oil and the Military Industrial Complex are reporting booming business. Is this any great suprise? It's very obvious why there is such a discrepancy (that is, why the rest of the economy sucks), but as usual, the duplicitous mainstream media simply don't connect the dots, and the sheeple sit there wide-eyed with fear and don't give it a second though, because they're too scared or dim-witted. :eyes:
