Grandmother Of Dead Soldier Confronts Cheney On Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041026/ap_on_el_pr/cheney_grandmother&cid=694&ncid=1473

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Dick Cheney (news - web sites) came face-to-face with the war in Iraq (news - web sites) when a 62-year-old grandmother confronted him on the campaign trail. Phyllis Hobbs told Cheney she had sacrificed a grandson to the war.

"I'd like a little peace," she pleaded with the vice president. snip

Her grandson Steven D. Conover, 21, was among the U.S. soldiers killed last November when insurgents in Fallujah shot down the Chinook helicopter he was riding in.

Devastated by the loss and the fear of what else could happen, Hobbs said her health deteriorated to the point where she suffered kidney failure the month after her grandson's death, putting her in a wheelchair. Cheney spotted her in her wheelchair in an audience of rabid Bush-Cheney supporters and invited her to ask him a question.

Hobbs asked Cheney, "Is there anybody who knows a time limit" for pulling out of Iraq? "I have four over there. ... I had one killed. ... I'd like a little peace."

1. She needs to vote for Kerry
...if she wants peace. She'll never get justice from those clowns, though. They just do not care.

2. I am surprised the Secret Service did not arrest her afterwards.
I doubt if Darth Cheney has anything to say to her, or even cares.

3. [Much derisive laughter]
Cheney thought he'd score big points by taking a question from the old lady in the wheelchair. Gotta love how it backfired!

4. And cheney replied....
~snip~

Given to understatement, the vice president calmly replied: "I appreciate very much obviously the sacrifice they made. ... If you put an artificial date on it, what with the terrorists just waiting until that day arrives, Americans withdraw, and then they'll reinsert themselves, that's not acceptable."

Minutes later, Cheney's wife, who appears with him at most campaign events, was in deep conversation with Hobbs, who said later she was pleased by their comments.

Far from being bitter about her loss and the uncertainty surrounding when the troops will come home, Hobbs recalled the words of her grandson a few days before he died, a memory to which she proudly clings.

"He said, 'Grandma, if anything is going to happen to any of us, make sure they continue with the war until it's finished,' " she said.

.... This is one of the most God awful things I have ever read...

14. Did the Cheney's receive their degrees form
The Jim Jones Christan Koolaide University or what?

http://www.who2.com/jimjones.html

JIM JONES • Cult Leader

Jim Jones was the founder and leader of Jonestown, Guyana, a community of over 900 members of The People's Temple Full Gospel Church, an offshoot of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Jones had been an untrained preacher in Indiana and California before moving his congregation to Guyana to avoid government scrutiny. In November of 1978, U. S. Congressman Leo Ryan visited Jonestown to investigate allegations of human rights abuses. Ryan and his group were murdered at Jonestown, and on November 18, 1978 Jim Jones and 911 of his followers committed suicide or were murdered. Initial reports said the members drank Kool-Aid laced with cyanide, but a report from the Guyanese coroner said that hundreds of the bodies showed needle marks, indicating foul play. The U. S. government has not released all the documents pertinent to their investigation of the incident, further complicating the long-held conspiracy theory that Jonestown was a mind-control experiment conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency.

22. So...
We have to stay there until:

1. There is peace
2. When the world comes to an end, and Jesus proclaims Bush as the leader of the world...

Never ending war... yuck.

5. You have to read to the end of the story to realize it had a positive spin
for the administration. Grandma supports the war.

11. Since Cheney only meets with hand picked audiences
she had to be a party loyalist to begin with. No surprise that everyone was happy in the end.

16. Bet they promised her a flu shot.....
Surely, her physical condition warrants one. But that's not enough for so many others who need the vaccine.

of getting right over to talk with her, that "lib'ruls" just might misinterpret what she had said and use it for their own commie pinko purposes, and she'd damned well better put a "pro-Bush" tone to things when reporters started asking talking to her.

Maybe they threatened to keep all of the surviving family soldier members in Iraq until they died of old age or bombs, whichever came first.

On edit:

Remember, they are holding three more of her family members hostage!

15. i could not sell my grandson's blood so cheaply. i fell sorry for the 62
year old grandmother who, like her grandson who lost his life, was sold a bunch of crock and she bought it. cheney's answer to her is such a crafter answer made to justify the unnecessary death of the young man and of others like him who have died and will continue to die... send mary cheney and the twins to iraq!

I'm surprised he didn't have her arrested.

21. No one gets "face-to-face" with Cheney
Of course it was a set-up.

She was invited, and it was all set up.

Who the hell gets close to Cheney? Close enough to say something to him?

Then, to have a "chat" with Lynne, The Skank Bitch From Hell?

Granny's a ringer..............
