Bush Says His Party Is Wrong to Oppose Gay Civil Unions
President Bush said in an interview this past weekend that he disagreed with the Republican Party platform opposing civil unions of same-sex couples and that the matter should be left up to the states.

Mr. Bush has previously said that states should be permitted to allow same-sex unions, even though White House officials have said he would not have endorsed such unions as governor of Texas. But Mr. Bush has never before made a point of so publicly disagreeing with his party's official position on the issue.

In an interview on Sunday with Charles Gibson, an anchor of "Good Morning America" on ABC, Mr. Bush said, "I don't think we should deny people rights to a civil union, a legal arrangement, if that's what a state chooses to do so." ABC, which broadcast part of the interview on Monday, is to broadcast the part about civil unions on Tuesday.

According to an ABC transcript, Mr. Gibson then noted to Mr. Bush that the Republican Party platform opposed civil unions.

"Well, I don't," Mr. Bush replied.

I believe this will affect a lot of Bush's religious right supporters and may keep some of them home. They truly believe that any sanctioning of a gay lifestyle is a sin, and have NO flexability on the subject.

That bitch must be desperate if he is suddenly trying to pander to gay voters. He must have had a big stiff one (a drink, that is) before he could bring himself to make this statement.

4. His fundy base need to realize Bush & Co are just using them for votes
It has always seemed transparent to me that Bush and many Repubs do not have any true moral conviction but are just cynically using the wedge issues such as gays and abortion to garner votes.

10. They think he is lying about it for political purposes
I think all of Bush's supporters know he lies for votes, but all think he is lying to the OTHER guy. So the right wingers assume he is really against gay unions and is saying it for votes. And they are okay with that.

11. Security Faults
Its too bad that a collection of people who can be programmed like a computer exist in this nation. Screaming at them and making threats, showing disturbing pictures, and uttering magic words like "God", "faith", and "morals" can bring about any desired end result. If our creator is out there, when does he release a Critical Update for the human brain to prevent unauthorized users from uploading and executing a line of bullshit for somebody to carry out?

9. And he had NO influence on the determination of the Party Platform?
Being the incumbent candidate, he had no influence? Nor did Cheney, with his gay daughter, and his public rejection (and reported "break with Bush" on the topic) of the FMA? OH PUHLEEZE...

I think that more women accept civil unions than condemn them. Women like love :)

13. come on!
I gotta go right now, but in reading this, I beg two people to write Sen. Kerry and tell them how infuriated you are that the President is trying to convince people that He and Dick didn't dictate what the party platform says on this subject, PUHLEASSSE! I'm gonna have a coronary if I stay on this topic one more second.

17. Bush Needs Not Fear..........
The "Loggers" loathe themselves so much, their vote was bagged long ago. The worse he treats them.. the better they like it! This trick is for the other folks out there worried that their rights will come under fire next. If he is elected, instead of being installed by the courts this time..... He will beat Queers into the dirt with a smirk on his face. Christ, why does the Gay community not see the rat in the room? Are they so used to ill treatment, that it's all they know?

20. If this wasn't so sad, I would laugh
It is so hard to keep up with his flip-flopping on subjects. Does he even realize that he is playing with real people's lives? Does he even care? Rhetorical questions, I already know the answers.
