VALENCIA -- A young Marine from Valencia died this week in Iraq in a Humvee accident at his base, a family member said Monday.
Pfc Richard Patrick Slocum, 19, graduated in 2003 from Saugus High School and had been in the Middle East about two months, his uncle, Keith Lair, said.

Lair said Slocum's parents, Kay and Robert Slocum, were given few details of the accident. They were told their son died when his Humvee overturned while he was negotiating barricades at his Marine base. The incident happened either Sunday night or Monday and was still being investigated, Lair said.

On Edit: I casualties confirms as # 1106 http://icasualties.org/oif/

The DOD and CENTCOM have NOT recognized this death yet. It will probably be reported in a few days.

This is an example of UNDERREPORTING.

Their attitude is it is NON-HOSTILE.

2. I thought troops were not allowed to die...........
till after the elections.

It is very suspicious that convoys are reported to be attacked with IED's, and vehicles destroyed, soldiers injured, but Iraqi civilians (usually children)killed.

3. Humvees don't roll! Next to impossible!
Unless the extra armor is placed too high without a counter weight placed on the bottom. But I thought that's were the extra armor was being welded on, on the bottom. Thus it would be even more difficult to roll than the manufacturers specs.
