U.S. Sees No UN Role in Probing Missing Explosives
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States said on Tuesday it saw no need for U.N. involvement in the search for 377 tons of high explosives missing in Iraq (news - web sites), but Russia said the Security Council should pursue the issue.

"It is a question which must be tackled by the Security Council," Russia's U.N. ambassador, Andrei Denisov, said, calling on the 15-nation U.N. body to both discuss the missing explosives and the eventual return of U.N. inspectors to Iraq.

"We have to react to the disappearance of explosives in Iraq, and the willingness of at least some (Iraqi) officials to welcome the renewal of the inspections," said Denisov. Russia, like the United States, is a permanent veto-wielding member of the 15-nation council.

Arms experts said they feared the explosives -- which could be used to make a detonator for a nuclear bomb or blow up an airplane -- could be used to attack U.S.-led or Iraqi forces in Iraq, or smuggled out of the country and sold to terrorists or countries with nuclear ambitions like neighboring Iran.

2. Makes you wonder what they are trying to hide now, doesn't it? I mean
it's not like they are suddenly accepting responsibility for the blunder - "I screwed up, let me make it right".

Nope they want the same people in charge that were suppose to find the WMD. What's up with that?

This was a job best left, he said, to the Iraq Survey Group, the CIA (news - web sites)-led task force that has been unsuccessfully scouring Iraq for weapons of mass destruction, a prime justification for last year's U.S. invasion.

3. So, the question comes to mind...
exactly what was the purpose of those people such as David Kay, eh? Maybe it wasn't searching for WMDs after all!!

4. It also raises the question...
If Iraq now has a sovereign government, shouldn't this be their call? What exactly is the purpose of this so-called government if the US has veto power over anything it wants to do?

6. Surprise, surprise.
Same people that didn't want 9-11 investigated. They are simply unable to accept responsibility for anything, and will never admit to the giant disasters they have caused. I never want to hear republicans talk about "accountablilty" EVER again.
