New CIA director ruffles agency:Goss filling posts with Republicans after nonpartisan pledge.

Washington - Porter Goss' initial moves as CIA director appear to herald a post-election purge at the already troubled spy agency, according to current and former top U.S. intelligence officials.
Goss, a former Republican congressman, has put at least four former Capitol Hill Republican staffers into top positions in his CIA office and has given them broad authority to make personnel and restructuring decisions, the current and former intelligence officials said.

One of the aides, whose identity Knight Ridder is not disclosing because he served under cover, has been "going around telling people they are to fire 80 to 90 people" in the Directorate of Operations, the CIA's covert arm, according to a former official.
...
Goss, who was sworn in Sept. 24 to replace George Tenet, pledged during his confirmation hearings that he would be a nonpartisan CIA director.

</snip>

Nothing new here, move along now.

Hopefully this guy will have a VERY short tenure.

Bet on it. We are the left brachial pulse of the party. We are read (and joined?) by CIA friends and monitored by CIA enemies. However, I think the vapid little Bu$h has many more enemies at the agency now than does our little lefty coterie.

6. Lame duck scum
They know it's ending and they're trying to pack as many of their people into key positions before the Inaguration to set themselves up for 2008.

Do I sense a Rehnquist departure shortly? With a nominee hastily offered up and confirmed? Wouldn't put it past them.

Nothing's going to happen like that. Congress is only a lame-duck session after the election, then they break for the holidays.

Kerry will appoint the Justices, don't you worry.

15. I know that's the way it normally works, but...
...call me crazy, I think they would try to ram through somebody in a special session. Wee bit paranoid here, but I think I come by it honestly.

Until the stake is through their heart and they're laid low in a crucifix-covered coffin filled with garlic, I'll remain a bit nervous.

At least I'm worried about what will happen _after_ Kerry's victory! ;-)

7. Goss the lying whore
Don't forget - he's the asshole who, during an interview with Michael Moore in "F 9/11," claimed his office had an 800 number for his constituents to call.

Then, on the screen, appear the words, "There is no such 800 number."

Then, Goss's office number is there, on the screen.

Lying bitch, Porter Goss.

16. Porter Goss had "working" breakfast with Taliban boss on 911

No doubt they turned on the TV to watch their handiwork

Three days after the attacks on September 14, the New York Times reported that important members of the Bush Administration met with the terrorist financier and ISI Chief, General Ahmad: CIA Director George Tenet, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Under-Secretary of State Marc Grossman, and Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE) -- Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

However, the Times also revealed that on September 11 -- while the attacks were in progress -- the two current Co-Chairmen of the Joint-Intelligence Committee investigating the 9/11 attacks, Senator Bob Graham (D-FL) and Representative Porter Goss (R-FL), met for breakfast with the ISI Chief who had ordered $100,000 wired from Pakistan to terrorist leader Mohammed Atta in the days immediately preceeding the attacks.

All this, while General Ahmad was in the United States meeting with multiple Bush Administration officials and members of Congress: "When the news came, the two Florida lawmakers who lead the House and Senate intelligence committees were having breakfast with the head of the Pakistani intelligence service. Rep. Porter Goss, Sen. Bob Graham, and other members of the House Intelligence Committee were talking about terrorism issues with the Pakistani official when a member of Goss’ staff handed a note to Goss, who handed it to Graham. ‘We were talking about terrorism, specifically terrorism generated from Afghanistan,’ Graham said."

27. I read an article about not fighting it as strategy
That he's no worse than anyone else Bush would appoint, and he'll be gone as soon as Kerry is elected, so it wasn't a battle worth fighting. They were going to save their energy for things like Congressional and Senate campaigns.

I'm not saying it was necessarily good strategy. I'm just pointing out how they were approaching it.

For gods sake, they can now manufacture anything on the inside. OSP is a disbanded Pentagon unit with Wolfie & Feith.

Now they have the keys to everything - all the bags of dirty tricks and god knows what - just in time for Halloween, ha ha. If the anthrax mailers had CIA grade quality it means they'they've had someone in there at some level before/since the coup - the 41 people dominating the * players and anyone else in the way. Now the entire agency is at the hands a few, desperate rethugs looking to stay in power. Hang on!

voted for his confirmation on a "Google Search." I couldn't find an article on it. Now, that was just after he was confirmed and I was so angry I was spitting nails...so maybe there's more on "Google" now, than then.

But...that ANY DEMOCRAT could have cast a vote for affirming Goss...is just too low for me to deal with. I want their names and I want to give money to vote them out...I want them "TRASHED!" They are the "Zell's" of the party...anyone with a "D" who put that Repug/Hawk/Hack/Toadie/ with a spy record dealing with subversive/evil ativities of the RW of the Dem Party...should NEVER HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY OUR HOUSE OR SENATE...certainly a block vote "NO" by our Dems was in order here.

37. That would have done Kerry a world of good--NOT!!!
Obstructionist Democrats would have been a forever and a day talking point for weecowboy, who may talk about "strategery" but it is the Dems in the House and Senate who are actually thinking strategically and voting tactically. I admire the hell out of their unity--and in the House, Pelosi is the one keeping them in line. I am ASTOUNDED at the job she is doing--I figured she would do a good enough job, but she is rewriting the book, in a very quiet and effective fashion. Props too, to Steny Hoyer, who is a real mover and shaker behind the scenes (and a very nice person, too). The senate does not need the same level of cat herding, they know what they need to do.

A block vote NO would have ensured four more years of the hell we are living under. You give the nitwit the unimportant shit that is easily undone, you deny him bullshit wedge issues, and you attack him hard on the things that matter to real people and will topple him. Politics 101.

Anything else is standing on principle, when your principle is sitting atop quicksand. It may make you feel better for a second, but then you sink into oblivion.

Absolutely unacceptable they went along with this confirmation. The acting director had been doing a fine job and there were less than 3 months left until a new administration - zero need to swear in a new director. His promises were obvious lies. This guy already was a BFEE lieutenant before the appointment. We inflicted ourselves a very serious blow by not uniting to stop the confirmation of this crook.
