Kerry says president botched country's war on terrorism

Green Bay - Sen. John Kerry ratcheted up his attack on President Bush Tuesday, saying he had botched the war on terrorism both at home and abroad.

In stinging language, Democratic nominee Kerry made his fullest argument that Bush not only had exercised poor judgment in waging war in Iraq but also had made America less safe by shortchanging homeland security efforts.

That includes dangerous gaps in border protection, the security of U.S. chemical and nuclear plants, hospitals ill-prepared for biological attacks and poorly equipped firefighters, Kerry said to an audience of several hundred at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. snip

Kerry accused Bush of putting a higher priority on tax cuts for those earning more than $1.2 million a year than in paying for better protection.

"Three years after the deadliest attack in our nation's history, George Bush still hasn't done what's necessary to protect America because he's too busy protecting his tax cuts for the wealthy and well-protected," Kerry said.
